What position gets Europe?

I'd rather be sent to Eastern Europe and Maribor in a comp that the Moyesiah has won before than the one we are cursed in. If them yanks have got any bottle they'll be getting us kicked out of the Europa league on purpose

More chance of winning it
There’s a real mixture of pros and cons with the Conference.

Under the new SCR you still get the lower 75% threshold for being in Europe without getting much extra revenue to compensate so it could limit spending. At the same time I think with our increased stadium income our SCR position will be fairly decent anyway.

But the massive upside of the Conference like you say is any English team will be top 3 in terms of favourites so it would represent our best chance of a trophy in god knows how long. And then in turn that represents a route into the Europa the following season.

So there is definitely an argument in favour of the conference from a fans perspective, maybe less so from an accountant’s perspective.

Honestly, I think we've just been solid most of the season (and even dire for the Christmas/new year period) and even so we're well in with a shout of Europe.

You have to say that if they hold their nerve and dont start falling apart with a bit of expectation this team of ours can coast into a Euro-slot.

Home form is the only thing that stands in our way. If we start embracing that stadium instead of being 💩 scared of it then we'll do exactly that: coast into Europe.

The stadium - we started off well enough there but for reasons unknown we've dropped off. I remember a pundit, can't recall which one, saying near the start of the season that other teams would initially look forward to playing there at least if not more than Everton's players and there will initially be added hope and expectation for Everton to do well for no other reason than 'it isn't Goodison'.

They said the same was true of Arsenal, Spurs and Southampton when they first moved - all 3 initially had slow starts in their new stadiums against teams they perhaps might have beaten with the same set of players if they were still at their old grounds.

There might be something in this, might not, and we've also had dodgy home form at Goodison with far better away form while still there, too.

We need the stadium to be Evertonised. Unfortunately the club have sold their soul to a bunch of corporate organisations and we'll see that Evertonisation take place over the years and at a glacial pace...so as not to upset the sponsors.

Does Villa falling out of the top 5 and winning the Europa have any bearing on it?

Or will it just mean 1 less Europa place with them getting the extra CL spot.

No, it will just mean Villa get in the CL.

The way it works now if you win Europa or CL, you get guaranteed entry in to the CL. If you are in the top 5, you use up one of those spots. If outside of it, you get in anyway. It has no bearing on the 2 europa and 1 conference league spots.

I think for this to happen, Villa would have to win the europa league and finish outside of the european places, like Spurs did last season. If Villa finish top 8 then I think it doesnt add an extra place. Its all very complicated though. Technically 11 EPL teams can qualify for Europe. But it would take EPL teams winning all 3 European competitions and all the teams finishing outside the top 8

ESPN did a break down of how it could work on their website below.

In the simplest form we would need to finish top 7 to get Europe, it will go to 8th if a team in the top 7 wins the FA cup. Anything lower than that seems unlikely this season.

But you could see a world where Palace finish 12th but win the Europa Conference so, 9 teams from the EPL get in Europe next season, Top 8 plus Palace
