VAR is run by ref's making decisions on their fellow ref's competence (and with the knowledge that, in the near future, those roles will be reversed). It also guarantees them more money/employment, as pre-VAR there was a ref and 2 linesmen, now there's the ref, 2 linesmen and 3 'off duty' refs manning the VAR. It's in their own self interest to keep VAR going and to 'have each other's backs' as much as is possible. Self regulation never works!

Bingo. Bullseye. Nail on Head.

Easiest way to improve refereeing standards is to change VAR from a tool to help referees into one that prosecutes referees.

VAR Panels whose sole intent is to find and point out mistakes in real time.

And at the end of the season, the ref with the most mistakes goes the same way as managers or players or anyone else who isn't good enough to hack it in football. They get to go and work in insurance because their football career is done.

So what? Is the loophole to just sumo wrestle every attacking player to the ground *as long as you get them incapacitated before the ball’s kicked*?

Doesn’t pass the sniff test to me, surely not the rules??

They leave the rules deliberately vague so that they can give decisions to the teams that they like. Honestly someone from Everton should just call it out in the press. Take the fine
