2025/26 David Moyes

At the start of the season I expected Spurs, Newcastle, Forest to all be ahead of us. Probably Palace as well.

They’ve all for different reasons had terrible seasons and are in turmoil so obviously expectations change as the season progresses. Equally Brentford are doing much better than anyone thought they would.

Chelsea have also hit some absolutely disastrous form.

I think we’re 5 or 6 points behind where I feel we ‘should’ be, but that’s just purely my opinion. I think there’s been a great opportunity this season to push further than maybe most wouldbt have expected and that’s where the disappointment is coming from. It’s not disappointment at 50 plus points (if we get them) and top half, it’s disappointment that European qualification was there for us if we just went for a bit more but every time we were faced with an opportunity we couldn’t take it.

Moyes did ok. He did his job. He stabilised the club.

Why is he still here?

All those who told us "we just need him to get us safe and stabilise us and then move on" are all of a sudden looking to persist with the comfy cardigan.

He did his job. Now the owners need to show us what they are really about.

Soucek and McGinn midfield it is.

What are thou wittering on about?
I forecast we would not trouble Europe (we won’t)
I forecast mid-table obscurity (achieved)
I forecast we would finish 13th. (Looking good so far)

If your entire point was to show how correct my prediction was, you have succeeded. :coffee:

No you didn’t, you said mid table obscurity would be a bonus. It’s quite literally there in black and white.

Why? We'd signed no one. The clue is in the "right now", Michael. Our wonderful recruitment team were rather slow to the party, as I'm sure you'll recall.

What was it specifically about the incredible signings we made after that point that shifted your outlook from 15th being realistic, to nothing less than Europe being acceptable? FWIW I thought top half was realistic at the time so would consider bottom half a disappointment, I’m just trying to work out the rationale coming from others.

Who is that manager to kick Everton on. Forget Moyes for a sec.
Genuinely interested who it is people want to move up.

We need more stability. Currently we have the stability of a wooden out house. It'll last a bit and maybe with a coat of Ronseal it'll get through the winter.

But we want more stability. Concrete stability. Hardened, toughened stability the likes of which only a dour, weather Beaten, aged Scotsman can provide.

Or something...

If they do get rid of him, it will be in the summer, they are never going to sack him towards the end of the season, it will be after the last game (if it happens) and they wouldn’t of sacked him when we were more in with a chance of Europe such as before Brentford.

🤣 it’s funny but it’s true in a way, keep any expectations at a certain level, don’t upset things, keep reminders of what could be if things went wrong again, let them all get those nice earners, the fans will turn up anyway.

It makes me laugh when people criticise then get called out on it by some who’s mentality is things could be worse and not they could be better, you know, things to genuinely get excited about. They give themselves away because as soon as we get one or two decent results they can’t help but have a go and brag when it’s their attitude that plays a part in keeping the club the way it is in the first place.

Our best, most consistent, finishes in recent times have come with sticking with a manager long term.

When Moyes goes we can't go through the same cycle again, only to end up with Moyes #3 for another rebuild.

Part of the problem was the crap we appointed, but I think with some we perhaps booted too soon. Maybe Martinez should have got another season? Silva, I think would have fared better with a longer stint, perhaps we blinked?
