That game Leicester had away at Newcastle was second to last game of the season, if Castagne scored that chance and Leicester won, they only had to beat West Ham (which they did) to relegate us.

Leicester got stuffed at Fulham on the same day as we beat Brighton.They were the 3pm game and we kicked off at 5.30pm.

I was following their game as I travelled down to Brighton for our match thinking what a difference it would make if we could get a point…what do I know!

Newcastle had a load of chances to bury Leicester in that game and Nick Pope made a great save in the last few minutes which was massive for us.

I remember even at 3 - 0 in that Brighton game I was still crapping myself any time they went forward!

I was at the game and I was convinced the official clock at the ground had stopped as time seemed to have stood still for about 20 minutes in the first half.

What a bonkers afternoon that was!!

I'm pretty sure Leicester had it in their own hands the year they went down.

They lost right before our 5-1 win at Brighton IIRC and their loss was almost as important to us as our own win that day.

Well it seems that my mind has blanked out parts of those heady days for my own protection.

Yes. It was in Leicester’s hands when they went to Newcastle on the Monday night the week before the last game. If they’d won both their remaining games we’d have been down, thankfully they could only manage a 0-0 draw at Newcastle.

More then something! They make £400m is non-footballing revenue according to a mate of mine that works there. No only should mean they can survive the drop, but with the new PSR financial rules it should mean they can bounce right back to the top as well when they return.

The Championship is brining in SCR as well next season, they can spend 85% of their revenue even if they went down, they’d blow the championship out of the water.

Not questioning your statement of what your mate said - more of the source. £400m is an incredible figure to cite for non-footballing revenue. Can that be accurate? £400m in actual revenue to the club, or rather £400m in non-footballing revenue of which an amount will go to the club.

Damn it, they'll probably stay up now. IMO that was a must-win for West Ham last night, what with their and Spurs' respective fixtures. If they draw and Spurs win one, they're already below them.

Spurs: Wolves (a), Villa (h), Leeds (h), Chelsea (a), Everton (h)
--> I can see two definite wins, Wolves and Leeds, and a very good chance against us. Maximum 9 more points, but if unlucky maybe only 6. I think they'll perform well over these games, question is whether they can get the points. I put Spurs ending on between 37-40 points.

West Ham: Everton (h), Brentford (a), Arsenal (h), Newcastle (a), Leeds (h)
--> I see only one definite win, Leeds, and two definite losses Brentford and Arsenal. If they beat us at the weekend I think they stay up, if not they are 100% going down on those fixtures. I put West Ham ending on between 36-39 points.

Honestly a complete toss of the coin as to which one of them goes, despite West Ham having a two-point advantage. Defining weekend this, if one wins and the other doesn't, the one that doesn't win goes down for me.

I like how zero wins in 2026 Spurs have two definite wins in there too. Still on for the "safe by 5 points".
