2025/26 David Moyes

We went out of both cups to Sunderland at home and Wolves at first opportunity to PL teams.

Lost both derbies

Nil points or goals at Etihad, Emirates, Stamford Bridge

Horrendous home record at the new stadium.

One of the lowest scorers in the league once again.

100 mill wasted on players the manager won’t use in Barry Dibling Rohl Alcaraz Aznou

In a challenge for 7th place in a season when all of Chelsea Liverpool Spurs Newcastle Forest United have been by their own standards absolute toilet

Yet the noise out of all the players, manager, media at the club is that the season has been a huge success and the Everton DNA is back

What exactly have we done that can count as a success?

The highlight of the season is beating the worst Chelsea team I’ve ever seen in my entire life at home. A double over relegation threatened Forest, and a decent 90 minutes v Fulham at home.

That’s it.
A lot of good points here. It you look at the league as a whole then not many clubs have had what they'd describe as good seasons. Its why 6th to 13th is separated by a couple of points as there's no consistency at all with these teams. If we fail to qualify for Europe it will be a failure as we have more than enough to do so with how the league is this season

Today is extremely frustrating but the 2 worst results this year by far were still the two terrible cup losses.

And those games are also the reason why we need to finish the league well and get top half or ultimately it's a wasted season.
Cup games are definitely one of the top reasons I wouldn't be unhappy if we parted ways in the summer. The league is a bit of a lottery at the moment, but the weakened sides in the cups spoke volumes.

I think you have to balance all that out by saying we look far better now than we did when he took over just over a year ago. Frustrating at times of course but that's what comes with being in mid table which is an obvious progression point on our journey.

The next jump is even harder but I think Moyes has earned his chance to at least try and take it.

Yep

They clearly prioritised the league so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a top half finish in the league.

It's one of the main points why I would probably lean towards moving on from Moyes. His Derby record is terrible. But his record in cup competitions is a much bigger concern for me because there's been lots of very avoidable losses to poor teams over the years.

You weren't this animated when Dyche lost a derby match despite having a near identical starting team, you rolled out the excuses.

You want to know why? Really?

Because Dyche is a limited manager who had limited players and set them out to plays the same brand of boring defensive football every single game. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, and it gets you more than a point per game and keeps you in the league.

So he had three derbies against better Liverpool teams than this one, played the same boring way in all three, got battered in one, got robbed by a bent ref in the other, and then won another one.

What’s the point in getting angry. He had much worse players than Liverpool, he was a much worse manager than Klopp, he was always going to be a short term band aid, and no one could accuse him of treating them any differently because he played the exact same way against them as he did against everyone else. Oh and he also actually won one, which does help a bit.

Moyes is a much better manager than Dyche, has better players, is up against a far worse manager in Slot, who has a much worse Liverpool team. Yet despite all of this we don’t play anything like we play against other teams when we play Liverpool. If we just played to our normal level every time we played them we’d probably have more mixed results but Moyes manages these games completely differently and we get fearful performances way below our level. The fact this has happened for the best part of 13 years under him also adds to the frustration.

I’m more angry with Moyes because he can do better and fails almost every time. Dyche just blundered in for 3 games and even his brand of rubbish football was enough to win one of them
