2025/26 David Moyes

I'd hazard a guess the people who are still hung up on Moyes going to United are people that don't deal well with rejection in their personal life.

….i do think some fans think managers and players are just fans too but obviously they’re professional football people. We poached Moyes off Preston, nobody spoke of him being disloyal when that happened.

Managers in particular live in a world where they’re literally 5 games away from being sacked, it can’t be a one-way street.

As with players, we want to be in a position where our best don’t want to leave.

I don't think anyone begrudged him of that move. I mean, how many clubs would give a guard of honour/make an occasion out of their manager going to a regional rival? We did.

I didn't like his patronising comments about Everton when he was trying to sign a few of our players, and how he knew the players he wanted would want to leave - but he was probably right. I also didn't like how comfortable/confident he was revealing how his move to Man Utd occured.

But bygones be bygones.

For me, you can acknowledge he's done a great job, while also thinking it's small margins and think he isn't the right option long term. I, and most wanted Sam Allardyce sacked for finishing 8th.

Ironically, his biggest advocates now, would probably be his biggest critics if we lost 2 that we'd won, and sat 13th/14th. That's football.

Spot on - his experience has been vital - but entertainment wise most games have been not pretty to watch - but TBH its better than a relegation dog fight - Europe would be a certainty now if our home form had been just average - his methods suit catching teams on the break two banks of four etc - hence our great away record -

It will be the new owners who decide his future - any Manager with us needs more funds ....

I am no fan of Moyes but I think he is doing a very good job this season. The Chelsea game, in particular, was a very impressive performance.

If he had come into the premier league as a new younger manager replacing Dyche last season I’m sure we would all be very satisfied & would think we had lucked out. We would hope that he would improve & be debating how far he could take us with a better squad & how long we could hold onto him.

Unfortunately for him he has performed similarly at Everton first time round & at West Ham a couple of times so we have a very good idea of what the future holds although I know he has some strong advocates arguing that the faults that prevent him from being one of the elite managers either don’t actually exist or that there are reasons it will be different this time.

Conversely West Ham were in a near identical situation to us when Moyes left believing that Lopetegui would lead them to a brighter & better future & royally messed up.

I am hoping that TFG prove somewhat more competent than Moshiri, Kenwright & Sullivan when they decide it’s time to make a change. 🤞

I think the Pro- Moyes contingent has been pretty consistent this season to be fair, even after we'd dropped the league an went out the League Cup.

Also the term "Long term",what is long term in today's game?

I think the game we watch these days is far more about the here and now, because of the managerial merry go round.

I personally don't think long term is a thing anymore.

I'd disagree on that.

Progressive clubs will have long term planning.

I think any manager needs to be building long term. It's probably not in Moyes' interest to do so to be fair, I get that, but that's why clubs need to get it right.

So for every Grealish, Soucek, McGinn type we go after - we need to be signing, and developing a few players for the future.

Because if we don't, we're building on quick sand.

We should be enjoying the heights of 8th right now, but reality is - we're a sneeze from bottom half too. If that happens, it would be more tolerable if we had seen some development/progress in the players which contributed to a club record spend. As a collective - Aznou, Travers, Dibling, Rohl and Barry are starting to worry me - but then, long term needs to be exactly that, maybe they will come good.

That's a fair cop.

Maybe am just viewing things through a here and now lens, because the past 3 years have been horrendous.

Hello chum, would you say you backed the Everton Manager that took over a relegation haunted club and produced this in his first year?
