2025/26 Jordan Pickford

I see some fans tried to work out speed from video timing (e.g., ball travel time and estimated distance) - when the ball leaves Tonali’s foot to when Pickford makes contact (~0.42s from ~22 yards), leading to an approximate figure of ~172 km/h (~107 mph)!

If he’s just saved a shot travelling at over 100mph then that needs to be talked about!

If only that Vinny Grappa chap was on here…

That was my 1st thoughts
As Tonali shoots I just thought the sheer speed and trajectory of it ,thats in.

Watched a few reruns of it now & can honestly say that is as good a save i've ever seen.
That is right up there with iconic saves in the past like Gordon Banks .

Pickford must have one of the finest catalogue's of saves in world football.
So glad he stuck with us in some dark times and signed that new deal , lets hope he gets some reward trophy wise in the near future.

How far behind is he then? Hes so underrated had he won something with us or even England or maybe even played for a top side he would be spoke of as one of the best. Martinez won the World Cup and people raved about him great keeper no doubt about it but winning something pushes you into the lime light. I didn’t have the pleasure of watching southall in his prime caught the end of his career but great memories of him when I’d peer through the gate by the church to just see him in the 18yard box and also met him at stokes ground he took me and my brother into the changing rooms to meet the players so he always was my favourite player and also being a keeper myself but for me Pickfords my favourite ever player now doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
I wholeheartedly agree, and by too many Evertonians, let alone other fans. As I've said before, Pickford is fantastic and a key part in our survival.

But to answer your question regarding how far behind is he: for me, it comes down to consistency, longevity and being an all-round, sublime keeper.

Southall's weaker areas of his game would be many keepers strengths. He commanded his area, fantastic at 1v1s, unbelievable recovery and unreal saves.

In his prime, he was unbelievable and widely regarded as one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best. When he was older, he was still outstanding.

In 97 for Wales, they were snotted 7-1 by the Dutch, and you'd usually think he must have been poor. In fact, he was sublime - stopping a cricket score.

That's the gap to me - from a very good keeper to an actual great. When we talk about Dean, Labone, Ball, Kendall and co, I think Nev should be there.

He was a genuine all-rounder.

Anyway, back on topic.... Jordan Pickford is dynamite!
