January Transfer Window 2026

Personally I think Dibling would be fine if he was chucked into the team now, get a few games under his belt, if Moyes told him he’s starting for the next 6 games with no pressure on him then I think he’d be ok. Obviously when results don’t go our way or he has a quiet game the Everton Da’s will crucify him but it must be tough for a young lad either starting a game or coming on as a sub knowing if he doesn’t put in a MoM performance he’s back on the bench next week. Give him a run of games.
tbf I don't think anyone is expecting that.

He done ok against Burnley, kept his place. Had his best game (not amazing but a proper graft performance 2nd half) against Forest and kept his place.

Turned in a dreadful 1st half against Brentford, was subbed and no surprise he lost his place against Wolves. Got picked again against Sunderland and again was dreadful so it was inevitable he would lose his spot again against Villa.

He literally just has to show the kind of solid yet unspectacular performance he put in against Forest and he'd probably be a starter. But when he puts in 1st half performances like he did against Brentford, he can't be complaining when he's not getting selected.

Every game theres pressure, we all want him to come good, but he has to be showing it too and so far this season we've seen 1 decent ball across to Beto against Burnley and a couple of dribbles.

Agree, I'm quite surprised at how many seem to be turning their noses up at the prospect, skilled, highly adaptable, scores goals, think it would be a great signing myself.
My issue is that he’d be yet another slow, skilful player who is suited to central positions but can do a job out wide, much like Illy, and how we’ve tried to use Alcaraz and KDH at times.

We seem to have a real aversion to using actual wingers - Dibling being the very obvious case in point - and indeed to having actual full-backs who would free up space and opportunity for real wingers to work.

I realise I’m ranting in response to a spurious transfer rumour that won’t go anywhere, but still it’s made me a bit mad.

He’s got 7 goals and 5 assists this season,
That’s better than Grealish and Ndiaye, not that I think he’s better than them,
But he’s obviously very affective around the box

Be a good move wilson but still think the club needs actual pace something different to what we have.problem we have is alot of similar players esp out wide
If the club could get him
For free in the summer, that would
Be a good pick up for the club. But then imo
Id go and spend the grealish money, he’d probably cost us 50mil in fees and wages.
On a top class winger with pace, who’s 23/24

The Tosun and Walcott window is a bit of a weird thing that people got hung up about, in the sense that it didn't really have anything to do with it being January, it was totally in keeping with what we did in summer windows. They also both did quite well at first too. I suppose the key thing is whether you're able to get who you actually want in January, or whether there's a bigger possibility that you're just bringing what's available. It's not that bringing in quality in January is impossible, but there is a clear preference across most teams for doing business in the summer, so there's obviously more to it than we might think from the outside.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and people will say now that we were never going down that season. From what I remember though the team by the end of Koeman’s tenure looked one of the worst in the league and had no pace or physicality anywhere and absolutely nothing about it upfront. Rooney was flanked by Siggurdson and Sandro in the slowest front line in the league and in midfield Schneiderlin Klaasen Gueye looked terrible. The injuries at the back left us with Kenny Williams Jagielka Martina, an awful back 4.

We absolutely needed a boost in January and the club probably overpaid to ensure we got players of the right quality. It worked as they provided an instant impact and we pulled away from the relegation zone quite comfortably. The injuries to Tosun were unfortunate because he could finish but they robbed him of what little edge he had.

In January if you’d said the club could spend 50 mill and remove the chance of relegation, I would have taken that deal there and then. It’s only in hindsight that it looks like wasted money. If we’d have not made any signings that season though I’d have worried for us going forward even with the managerial change as we just had nothing up top.

Credit to Allardyce for actually balancing the team in a better way with Calvert Lewin/Tosun down the middle, Walcott on the right, Rooney and Davies in midfield with Gueye holding. We actually had some balance, a bit of creativity in midfield and some pace upfront and it was enough to see us through.
