2025/26 Adam Aznou

I see you share a similar opinion to Moyes
No mate, we have to have U21s to try and sift through and find a genuine PL talent and we have coaches who can do that at that level. But the vast majority of U21s aren't at Aznou's level and therefore will drag his overall performance down.

There's also the motivational issue to think about: if you came to the club being promised a place in the senior squad and the idiot manager puts you in with other kids you cant be that much up for the 'challenge'. That has to be factored in when considering Aznous apparent poor showing at that level.

To be fair we don't know what timeline he was promised. However we did see that he gave a performance that Moyes will have to sit up and take notice of going forward. As has been said, similar to how Baines and Coleman eventually broke into the team.

Coleman got in pretty much straight away, proved himself and was then loaned out. Baines was proven at Wigan and then had to sit it out for a season.

Moyes is just 'kin weird.

That's the common denominator.

He is Ultra cautious. Its in his DNA. But as he has shown with various sides, if you trust him he will get you up the table and with a true superstar in the team, can win you silverware.

Yea but we don’t actually know that because he’s not played
I know that mate, but our defence has been quite poo, and I can understand a reluctance to change/gamble with the LB berth on our current form. In my eyes, Myko's an average defender who's next to useless offensively but who does give his all for the team, and Aznou perhaps does need to step up his defensive side to make the LB position his own.

None of that's an excuse to have kept him out of the team for half a season where he could have had match practice on the wing and worked on his alleged defensive weaknesses with back-up behind him.

Hahahahaha...you should know that's not how it works. He'll get his next chance starting as a central defender for embarrassing him.

As much as I don't agree with Moyes saying he needs to "develop physically" to play as a left back in the prem, I understand it to a degree. What that doesn't excuse though is not just giving him minutes off the bench in games in which we need a goal and Mykolenko is breaking down our attacks. It's like Moyes is stuck in the past and doesn't realise that a full-back can be an attacking and positive sub.

Moyes’ he needs to develop physically’. Why buy him? McNeil trots around like a ballerina and is easily pushed off the ball. So is half the squad.
Moyes’ im not coaching Dibling’ . So why did you buy him?
Moyes is more concerned with ‘I was right…’ than the welfare of Everton or getting the younger players in. I wont be watching Villa - thats a first for me…

Coleman proved himself as what exactly? He mostly played in losses, especially in Europe, and was loaned out as he was incredibly raw but pacy. We also had other RBs so he was obviously not gonna play here, sadly, as we cried out for pace down that side (and why he came back as he did, credit to him).

Baines sat out because Lescott was a great 'stop-gap' at LB, similar to how any RB coming in now will be behind JOB regardless of form or anything else.

Heitinga was a RB and DM for half a season before playing at his actual position too, because Distin/Yobo was strong at the time.

Those are the only "reasons" I can think of that make sense, at the time.

If we go further back we'll probably find a lot more examples of this, but yeah, Moyes is weird with new and younger players, on that I 100% agree.

We saw the impact he had coming on and even getting into the box making it more difficult for their defence, something which Mykolenko doesn't do very much.

Aznou's cameo was as a left sided midfielder/winger. Maybe Moyes has 'unearthed' a winger that can turn and go forward taking people on, get to the byline and cross or cut inside. Something we've sadly miss lately on the left unlike when Ndiaya was there.
