He's regressed a bit. Earlier in the season he was making runs off the ball, but the team didn't try to find him and he's either been coached not to make those runs, or realised the runs are pointless as no one is going to pass to him anyway. Technically he's not up to standard. I do feel there is a player in there somewhere, but no striker looks good in a Moyes team.
In terms of strikers alone, it seems to be a dying art of strikers trying to get in front of a man at crosses and things these days. Strikers used to be the sharpest players on the pitch, but now they're mostly big strong athletes.

Earlier in the season he was trying to run in behind quite a lot when the opposition had a higher line.

How many shots has he had since he’s been here? Not headers, actual shots. 5 or 6? Been here half a season and I still don’t know if he can strike a ball.

Mind you Dom was here a decade and I never saw him put his laces through the ball.

Beto played 10 minutes when we only had 9 men and contributed more than this lad did for 80 minutes. He was awful. He doesn’t even get into position to miss opportunities.

Because Beto's one job is that time is to run about and make a nuisance of himself. Most can't do that for 90 minutes while also being a goal threat.

I never watched him in Spain, but I`m pretty sure he wasn`t expected to try and take on 3/4 defenders on the odd occasion he did actually get the ball.

Which striker is asked to do that anywhere? Same for Beto when he plays, they are chasing their own knock ons ffs.

We don’t play with the intention of servicing our strikers. We play to get a pull back for a midfielder form the edge of the area or a deep cross from a full back. They are out only two attacking moves, neither of which is much use for a lone striker in a box packed with opposition defenders.

Agreed, we are good a ruining strikers, have been for a while.

I’d like to him and Beto both on in a 4-4-2, at least they would have support close to them. Don’t think Moyes has the minerals to go for that though.

Without KDH, Charley or Illy we don’t really get anyone near Barry or Beto, and we ain’t playing the type of through balls quickly enough that both of them can run onto, which is their strengths.

There's some truth in this, it's why Calvert-Lewin wouldn't be doing as well here as he is at Leeds and the countless debates of time gone when I'd say he'd hit double figures elsewhere.

There's an issue with playing style, a chronic lack of pace/transition but making every excuse in the world for the lad, he has to do a lot more.

Let’s face it Everton FC is an absolute graveyard for strikers since Lukaku, we play some of the worst football in the league. We ask one player to occupy two or three CBs with very little support - you could put any striker on the planet into our side and they’d struggle.

He's doing fine at Leeds.- they were robbed last night - can you see us scoring 3 goals at Newcastle with Barry upfront ?
