2025/26 Thierno Barry

Couple of little flicks today just irritated me tbh. Probably thinks he’s doing really well because he put one in from a yard last match.
Forget the flicks - get the basics mastered - like movement, aggression, strength.
This. He seems to have precious little football nous and even less understanding of what a striker needs to do in terms of movement , technique and physicality.
Add to that his lack of desire and natural finishing ability and we appear to have yet another dud striker on our hands.

I say appear because he is still young and new to this country but boy he needs to learn very quickly or will be jettisoned

Could tolerate slow progress as he’s young and come from abroad etc, but last night looked like his acclimatisation was going backwards, possibly his worst performance for me.
Hopefully just one of those nights for him, but patience is wearing thin.

Nope, you are correct he was dreadful last night and the Wolves centre halves wouldn't have believed how easy their job is.

I'm hopeful he gets to about 7-8 goals this season so still has some form of rep in Spain and we get rid and don't lose too much on him. If your striker isn't padding out his game with goals, you need far more like bullying centre halves, stretching play, bringing others into play, he offers none of that.

Given how much his shoulder is strapped up you'd wonder why he's playing (if you can call it that) some strange things going on behind the scenes.

This why I’ve recently decided I’ve seen enough. I get we don’t create buckets of chances but he’s not doing the other things that would help the team and at least make it a bit more difficult for defenders. Extremely poor signing.

As poor as he was, we create nothing for him. No crosses or cut backs.

He makes no effort to get ahead/infront/across his man.

There's minimal effort off the ball, no running to stretch play - centre backs have their easiest game of the season against him.

Moyes isn't the best with centre forwards, particularly those who haven't proven it in the Prem but I'd find it hard to believe he's being instructed to play that way.

The ball by Armstrong outside of the foot first half, begging for your striker to get half a yard and in front of the defender but he was just stationary, standing behind him when with a bit of movement he would have had a great headed chance.

Definitely has a lot to work on but his hold up and link up play overall is solid; still think there’s a player in there myself
His link up play is solid?? Our standards are so low it’s painful. Solid link up play would be a pass that could be a ‘pre assist’. A five yard pass backwards to the number 10 is not solid. He touched the ball 4 times in the first half

His position play is so far off being the standard we need I’m expecting Moyes to give Beto an extended run again soon

He's regressed a bit. Earlier in the season he was making runs off the ball, but the team didn't try to find him and he's either been coached not to make those runs, or realised the runs are pointless as no one is going to pass to him anyway. Technically he's not up to standard. I do feel there is a player in there somewhere, but no striker looks good in a Moyes team.
In terms of strikers alone, it seems to be a dying art of strikers trying to get in front of a man at crosses and things these days. Strikers used to be the sharpest players on the pitch, but now they're mostly big strong athletes.
