January Transfer Window 2026

He was on loan at Forest last season (where he had a falling out with Nuno) and then was recalled by Potter. For some reason Potter would play him as a defensive midfielder, but that’s not his game.

He could do a good job for us and add a bit of short-term depth. Given we are short of cover and he brings brilliant set piece taking and pressing ability would make him a potential bargain, in my opinion.

Hes a hard-working, honest pro.
So you’re proposing he play in central midfield that requires even more pace and dynamism than a defensive midfielder?

Again, if we want a cheap short term alternative, recall Armstrong, don’t waste a loan spot on a crab.

We need to be injecting more pace into the team, not hanging off average players from a few years ago. Not arsed if they’re honest or hard working if they can’t track a runner.

We’ll see how many suitors he has in January and of what level.

You’re right about the need to use the loan slots though, we have a couple of them and we need them to make an instant impact, not cover for our best player - we need to raise the ceiling, not the floor

You play him a bit more advanced and let him support the front men with his ball playing and pressing.

I don't really see us spending 'proper' money on a teenager in the jan or summer windows (IE, to go straight into the first team). The manager next season already should ideally be giving major minutes to Dibling, Armstrong and Aznou, there's only so much to go round.

Im not sure who would be a RB that we could sign who would be top class for the rest of the season?

Ive suggested it may be Martim Fernandes because of the scouts watching Porto. Ive mentioned the Moroccan RB as well who i think is 21.

If we cant bring in ready made quality it has to be quality to develop.

I still think he's good, don't get me wrong. I watched him when he was at Charlton, was a cut above everyone on the pitch that day (apart from a young Ben White, who looked excellent in a Leeds shirt).

But he's got qualities that endear him to the English fans and media. Bit like a Mason Mount - he puts himself about and covers a lot of ground - but when it comes down to it I don't think he has the technical ability or game intelligence to be a top top midfielder. I prefer CMs who can control a game. We as a nation don't tend to produce them, is all.

The way some sections of the commentariat refer to him would suggest he's a lot better than he is. Still good though and those qualities I think would make him good for us. Fans would love him

He got 5 goals and 7 assists in the season before moving to Atletico.

Year prior 3 goals 1 assist despite playing below half a seasons worth of games.

Year before 8 goals 3 assists for Palace.

Add those effective numbers in the premier league to his work ethic and he's potentially the star player we lack in the middle alongside KDH & Garner.

Think we’d love Gallagher as a fan base. I’d take Mainoo is an alternative

2 full backs and a striker whilst we’re there too Santa

He’s a good player and I’d take him … but I’d prefer a RB, LB and ST before we go for another midfielder

Bit of there aren’t any available then get him in … keep the squad Roger and add the full backs and at in the summer and we start to look like a decent team

prefer gallagher to mainoo. Think he would contribute to our fantastic press and can use the ball. Mainoo is not mobile enough, but better on the ball. Not sure he would suit us.

We'd be on the front foot with him and KDH every game driving us forward and Garner adding some balance.

The fans would all get behind him with his all action performances and other players games should go up a notch too as weve seen with KDH as an 8.

No brainer to make him our record transfer.

Gallagher as the right side 8 with KDH as left side 8 would have a good balance to it. Alcaraz and Rohl to cover. Garner and Tim for the 6.

I' have (L) KDH - Gallagher - Garner (R) with Alcaraz, Iroegbunam & Armstrong next season. Gana & Rohl out.

Mate, sometimes you just have to get players in that can do a job and shuffle your pack. It’s not like we are blessed with an abundance of options and January is always the hardest window.
Exactly, you’re exactly right. We don’t have a lot of options, that’s why we need to get what we need and nothing else.

We need ceiling raisers, not floor raisers (and that’s debatable with Ward Prowse).

Unless you’re a technical wonder, slow and pedestrian midfielders are a recipe for disaster. We need 2 full backs and a striker, we can’t wasted a loan on someone like Ward Prowse that might make an impact when KDH isn’t playing. Our squad is too small to justify it.

Again, we have the threat of Rohl being fit and a promising CM you could recall. We also have Alcaraz to play in the CAM role that you’re suggesting Ward Prowse cover…it just feels like a waste and the completely wrong profile of what we need.

No point dragging it on, we’re just going to have to agree to disagree.

Getting January right is something we can agree on though, will be the difference between finishing 14th or actually competing for something tangible

Playing a 6 foot 5 centreback at fullback is not showing any kind of ambition. Starting right back needed day of one of the window, despite Kinnears waffle about Jan being a difficult window

We need a right back everyone knows this, JOB is a centre half, Tarks should never have been giving an extension. When JB comes back it's Tarkowski that should be dropped and that shouldn't even be up for debate.

Kayode was available last Jan and now looks super.

Wesley we had in talks last Jan and Moyes pulled out. He also looks super.

What possible reason could Moyes have had not to sign one of them on the cheap last Jan?

Why did he decide also not to sign one in the summer with the only approach made to an injury prone player?

Will he actually sign a top notch attacking RB? Or will he sign an u21 with loads of potential (both fine with me) ?

Or simply no one at all. As hes done nothing for 2 windows with obvious players available.

Two proper full backs for the love of god

I can’t watch Mykolenko any more. Painfully average

We've signed a LB Adam Aznou.

He'll have to be brought into the team to push Mykolenko out. Moyes has not done right by a few of the younger players so thats the issue rather than signing a LB i think.

I think we have a good management team in place, so hopefully they have all their ducks in a row for January. Pro with Prowse is he is proven, is good in the dressing room and has a good attitude. A younger player may crack under the pressure.

I'd like to see Aznou be given a chance to play, I think in the longer term he'll be a player for us.

Myko's contract is up in summer though and we shouldn't be offering him an extension. Need a new left back anyway and would be a gamechanger for us to have someone decent in there for the rest of the season.

I didnt know this but it was mentioned in the athletic that both Garner (which we knew) and Mykolenko had 1 year options.

I wouldnt go out and sign a LB if i had high hopes for Aznou.

My guess is that we extend Mykolenko by a season. Then make a decision in the summer whether Aznou would be able to start.

Id be really shocked if Moyes signed a LB in Jan.
