2025/26 David Moyes

He's balled up up season by not buying a decent CF and wasting loads of cash on players who are injury prone or not good enough in the end in his opinion when he he got them here.

That is abundantly clear.

A CF who can find the net on a regular basis has us about 5th now.

I've been saying for two or three seasons that the PL is dreadful. There's a couple of elite teams that can compete in the CL but the rest are easily surpassable. The fact is that we really are about 2/3 months behind schedule just about breaking into the top 10.
I don't disagree. I have never bought this idea that "stability" should be our aim. The instability we endured was primarily a function of financial disaster. That's, effectively, already been remedied. Moyes proved last season that last season's players were a good base on which to build. We built poorly in the summer, with one or two exceptions. The lack of a striker could be the difference between Europe and mid-table obscurity. It might also be the difference between Moyes staying or going. One thing I will say is: I am happy to see that we have a side that could win pretty much any game. We won't be consistent enough in the league to really make hay, but there is no reason why a cup win should not be targeted. The lack of a striker is less of an issue over six games than it is 38...

I am happy with the result, but still questions on how moyes helps get the strikers and midfielders linking up better. Is some great play until we get near the box, has some choices to make vs forest now lets hope can get the win
Barry was asked repeatedly by the midfield to make a run, usually across the first defender.

needs one of these...

This isn't the Spain league, defenders won't drop off you. Making a run pulls defenders away so someone else can break on goal. Team game.
Show a bit of willing!

May sound stupid, but for the mid table sides,
The first goal is massive and it’s been massive in Moyes’s career. Last time he was here he hardly won, when we conceded first and hardly lost
When we scored first.

Forest were scoring first nearly every week last season and look how that helped them, though it’s not a long term strategy for success, it’s more a toss of coin approach
That's true enough - but it means a manager must send his side out aggressively. To be fair, Moyes did that at Old Trafford, and last night to some extent. We were all at sea against Newcastle - as we were at the start of the second half in Sunderland.

The manager's attitude is critical. I think he knows he has to get us on the front foot. He made excuses for Saturday - bad ones that reflected really poorly on him - but I think he knows we have to impose ourselves first.

I'm happy enough with the season to date - but know I will be infuriated when opportunity knocks. Moyes will have us mid-table. The problem then is he is better when he has few options. So, do we give him money? And he is better at our current level: get a team up the league to a certain point. After that? Wouldn't be my choice to break his own glass ceiling. And, as @davek points out, this is not a league full of way better sides than us. Better squads? Yes, to some extent. But Moyes seems better with limited options, so not sure that's a valid excuse. He's a make-do-and-mend manager. Probably a good choice right now...but not for anything more ambitious.

I dont think we'll see that this season, tbh.

We're at our best with this group of players we have now when we open up and play against teams around and below our standard. If we do that against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, City we'll be beaten easily enough.

We can get right in behind those teams in the table though if this manager allows them to stay off the leash against all teams outside those four. I have MAJOR doubts about his proclivity to do that though.

I think we could have got something at Liverpool had the manager brought his players off the bus. Sean Dyche did...

Arsenal will beat most sides. As will City. But I wouldn't rule out a result against them on a given day. Everyone else is beatable. We will lose plenty, of course, but there was a long time as Everton fans where you could set your clock to defeats at places like Bournemouth or United or Wolves.

That's changed - and it's changed because, as you say, the league has concertinaed. The overall standard of club football right now at the top level is nothing to write home about.

If we had a striker that could find the ned regularly you rekon we'd be in 5th now? That's just 1 point more than we currently have, a forward who could find the net regulary would have us 2nd or 3rd, We drew with Villa (when they werent playing well), Sunderland and West ham, a decient striker scoring regulary and we'd have a minimum of 4 extra points from those games that put's us in 3rd.

I said all season that Moyes should keep his job if we get top half and I'll stick to that. But this league is appalling now. That's why a team like Forest were doing so well and why an outfit like Sunderland are riding high.

That is factually true and we all want us to be winning things etc

Bit cast your mind back 12 months and we were all fed up with the club …. We won 8 games in a calandar year , went 3 months without a win …. Was something like 48 weeks of the calandar year we didn’t win a football match … all those 8 wins came in spurts meaning for 48 weeks out of 52 we didn’t have a win as a club ..

We were constantly looking over our shoulders for the previous 4-5 mangers and times were bleak.

We would have snatched someone’s hand off if they offered us a “boring “ mid table season … well here we are …

I want to improve but not recognising how he has pulled us away from all that is not fair imo

He’s not perfect but he is a huge improvement on our last 4-5 years

Let him stabilise us and then look to replace next summer or the year after that
I still want him gone ; he didn't win anything last time and he won't win anything this time, no matter how long he stays as the manager.

Ok, you're right, we should be 3rd now.

That's how horrendously over rated this PL is and why taking 4 months to get into the top 10 is not an achievement.

We shouldnt be 3rd, We would be 3rd if we had a compedent striker, but we dont so we shouldnt be 3rd... You are right though the league is muck this year. We are in 9th place after 14 games and only scored 15 goals very strange situation.

At this point in our phenomenal 2013/14 season, we were sitting on 24 points…

Imagine we manage to break our 72 point tally record this season?!

Certain heads might explode! What do you think, Mike?! 😳😮

No mate … 72 points is the best amount … no more … no less..

It’s our best ever prem season according to to a special someone … 72 points and 5th is better than finishing 4th

No, no, no...how could 72 be the best when it's...erm...our highest ever points total in the PL?

No, you're right, we should use a different metric...what would you suggest...number of long balls played in a season perhaps?
