2025/26 Adam Aznou

Thats your take?

Mine is that the talent is there but they wanted to put him on a program to bulk up.

For an £8mil 19 year old i dont see anything wrong with this.
I'm always sceptical of that phrase 'Bulk Up'
People seem to think it's a magic fix all.
For certain Physiques you end up like lukaku did at United
For certain Physiques your 'fast muscles' lose there 'snap'
If the guy is a bit of a mental wimp anyway, it's no use at all

Its unlikely a "mental wimp" would have backed himself to:

Leave Barca for Bayern
Push for a loan to Valladolid
Tell Bayern he wanted to be in the 1st team squad
Choose to join Everton

He could have just sat it out at the 2 big clubs or taken a loan move in Germany or Spain.

I think Gordon added on muscle while he was with us. Thats all they will want from Aznou i think.

I'm not saying he is one (or even that it exists really) but none of those things would really preclude him from being seen as a 'mental wimp'. Someone who continually thinks the reason they're not getting what they want is because of someone else's decision making and that everything will be better if they move somewhere else, rather than believing they need to knuckle down and work at their game, may well have some issues with mentality and attitude. Like I said, not saying he does, but the 'evidence' you're putting forward to say he doesn't doesn't really stack up.

Im surprised this lad gets so much interest on here. He was clearly bought for the future for what in todays market is a nominal fee. If it doesnt work out he will leave...

….don’t get this ‘bought for the future’ tag, as though at some prescribed date and age he’ll be deemed good enough. Truth is, he’s been brought in with a decent CV of clubs hoping we’ve found an alternative to Mykolenko.

I think it’s fair to say he’s disappointed, not even standing out at U21 level although comments suggest last nights performance was better.

He does look part of the first team set-up, pictures of him on the OT pitch with Ndiaye so we can only hope he’s settled and can make improvements required as he’s not got much competition ahead of him. Problem for him is if we purchase a new LB in the next window or two.

Moyes

“He’s coming on, Adam, but he’s 19.

“That’s not to say that 19 is too young to play, that’s for sure.

“But physically we think he’s got a bit to go. But when Leighton Baines came from Wigan, physically had loads to go, but he went on to become a terrific left-back and a really good player.

“We hope Adam can do the same. We mustn’t forget he’s 19 though, while it’s not incredibly young, it’s not old either for a young boy coming into the league and I think we just have to take a bit of time with Adam.”

No idea when he'll be ready to start - next season if we're lucky maybe? - but I'm going massively out on a limb and think this kid will be really good for us. All the technical quality is there, his ability on the ball is fairly outrageous. Also, he was the 2nd best full back in La Liga last season in percentage of aerial duels won - which to me says once he gets a bit more strength and physique, he's got the guile and attitude to get stuck in physically.

I fail to believe this lad could be any worse than Mykolenko.

Where on earth was he after Irogbunam messed up?

Standing miles off.
He must be dreadful if he can’t get in ahead of Mykolenko he’s not even that great at defending he’s ok when he’s got back up and absolutely useless on the front foot reckon 60% of his passes are backwards as well awful signing.

He's dreadful.

He cant even swing a cross in.

But his defensive work is supposed to be 'solid'.

Sorry, he looks like he cant do either side of the FB job.
