2025/26 Tyler Dibling

Dibling, Barry, Alcaraz, Aznou...

Each one signed by Moyes, each one being shown no confidence whatsoever.

Total cost? About 85m. At a club that had a huge squad replacement job on its hands over the summer and a pressing need to sign players for the present - not the future.

Now, players can have attitudes or need time to settle. But all four?

This isn't a tenable position for Moyes. His job is to get the best out of these players - but he isn't even attempting to, it seems.

There has GOT to be a disconnect between the manager and our competent professionals. If so, there will be only one loser there.

And you could understand it if we were top 5 with a seemingly good chance of getting Europe. We will be soundly midtable, so we may as well be developing these players.

Yup, we don't have the luxury of a Chelsea. We needed players for the here and now. Not next year. I realise we hit a wall in the summer for a variety of reasons - none reflecting well on us as the club we were in the recent past or as we are now. But if we then decided to pivot to youth, we HAD to have done so with full intention of bringing them through this season. But the minutes that these players have got says otherwise.

There has to be a massive disagreement between manager and suits. It doesn't reflect well on any side.

Its why I was slightly leaning more towards Fatawu at the time, I know there was concern over injuries but when you watch him he just strikes me as if he would have been a bit more game ready. I do believe Dibling has all the tools in his locker, he just needs to find a way into the team and hold it which won't be easy as Moyes doesn't like change.

Its the real juxtaposition, almost universally everyone wanted to sign young players with potential and develop them here in the summer, i think now that a lot of our signings can now be called slow burners and results are suffering we can see the value in PL expierence or more road tested players - not many wanted someone like Soucek for example. Im sure if there was a poll between Soucek and Rohl - i think Rohl would have one the vote.

Yet id argue Soucek or that profile is proabably exactly what we ned at the moment.

Ultimately though, i admittedly have been surprised by the impact of the loss of players who wrere in the squad and in fact the actual damage done to a squad that has sold it best players for too long and never invested in the squad as a whole. Its actually horrific. Despite the investment we are still suffering.

We've either invested in the wrong players or the wrong manager

Just to remind everyone, 24 league starts last season, plus 9 more as a sub.

I would argue it's a bit simpler, we had needs elsewhere (RB, CM, CB, Striker it turns out) regardless of age. Those positions were largely ignored, perhaps you can say we should see more of Rohl but he's been injured.

The players that are playing are largely the road-tested players you mention and creating these results.

To be fair, we invested in a central midfilder, a striker and at centre back considering the contract Branthwaite got (while we also resecured Keane), im not sure we ignored those positions. Whether the action was sufficient, or the quality sufficient or the long term developing signing young players strategy was the best - i think is debatable.

We certainly ignored RB for sure, i dont know how we went from Tete being a day way from signing as RB at the start of the window to signing none at all.

Still i tihnk debate will rage on - if we sign Soucek in Jan people will complain hes to old, but a week later people will say we are short and need experience now.

But again, you bring up Soucek. You bring him in, he's only replacing one of the "battle-tested" players in KDH, Gana or Garner.

Is the problem the lack of experience, or the experienced players that aren't performing?

It’s a good point of reflection mate.

Arguably you could say either young or old isn’t the defining characteristic - it’s quality .

Take Grealish he’s the same age as Soucek but perceptions on each and their signings are/would be totally different and that’s probably based on an and I stress the next word, perception of quality.

If we sign both neither are probably the future, so do we sign young now take our medicine and build for two seasons time or but 30 years olds and try a danger results now…in a way we’ve tried to do both and no one is currently happy.

I don’t think we need either end of the scale I think we needed 24/25 brackets really.

Capable of coming in and playing minutes immediately and improving on where we have been as a squad.

Dibling is a very expensive luxury, as is Aznou to a degree - when there were glaring issues elsewhere.

Barry is another who (despite his age) doesn’t look like he was ready to come into this level of football.

Rohl would be more the profile that I think fits what we needed - just need to get him fit and integrated. People keep harking on about Diblings minutes for saints last year, even Martin didn’t really have him as a starter until nearly Christmas time.

I think if we were a couple of years further down the line then your Diblings/Aznou types are perfect additions - as it was we had a whole squad to try and rebuild and we’ve left ourselves with glaring issues.
