The greatest crime of all

That's a few bob we've spent - deemed not yet good enough to get into what is/was a pretty poor side.

Barry, Dibling, Alcaraz, Rohl and Aznou were all sanctioned this summer - not to mention the Coleman renewal.

Considering we earned the points to finish 12th in Dyches first/only full season, and Moyes finished 13th in a recovery effort last season - we've got to be doing better than where we are now.

Simply, we can't spend a club record amount in the summer - before factoring in record wages for one player, and go backwards.

Still, it's small margins. A couple of results either side and the table looks loads healthier.

For me, the best chance at altering them margins was balance (full backs!) and pace on the wing. We failed to address both, which is why I was disappointed with the recruitment.

Michal Keane surprisingly the better signing & I & most on here were against it ....

Holgate was signed for £2m - left for free.
maupay signed for £15m - left for £3m
Cal-Lewin signed for £1.5m - left for free
Doucoure signed for £22m - left for free
Chermiti signed for £15m - left for £8m
Virginia signed ~£1.5m (?) - left for free

Not enough gets made about this, the seepage, we'd seen the likes of gbamin, bolasie, iceland, schneiderlin, mina, walk away for nothing after huge signing fees.

Adding up the above from the turn over (just) this past summer, circa ~£60m walked for ~£11m back. The net spend issue is never far away...
Puts the record spend into a bit more perspective doesn't it. We've spent to replace, not so much spent to significantly improve. It's still a patchwork side.

Not so much IMO.

I mean, if we want to talk replacements... how about;

Grealish replaced Maupay.

Dibling replaced Harrison.

Dewsbury-Hall replaced Doucoure.

etc - we didn't lose any big players. Not like when we were losing Richarlison, Iwobi and Gordon to keep the lights on.

The main point is this team is better than it has been for years, so it needs to show in terms of points.

Approaching 10 games, it isn't (vs final league placements anyway).

We've desperately needed pace for years, and full backs who can cross the half way line without suffering a nose bleed. We've spent a lot of money for players sat on the bench.

9 games in, away to city, the rs, and a home fixture vs spurs in the away form of their history. I'd like things to have been quite a lot different but here we are. To labour the league cup headache for a moment, it's a shame we were very sub par vs Mansfield, a few goals for Beto/Barry there would have made a difference, and then a softer draw and A LOT more seriousness equating to a few more goals and I reckon the burden and mental hurdle our forwards are clearly suffering under currently are eased.

Just to be a stickler,
Barry replaced maupay
Dibling for Harrison
Grealish for Lindstrom
D-Hall for Doucoure
Aznou for Young
GK's negligible.

maupay has still scored more PL goals for us than Barry.
Dibling isn't displacing either Grealish or Ili.
D-Hall has problems in a malfunctioning CM (Gana and Garner also involved).
I believe Aznou is injured.
Alcaraz isn't getting a lot of game time.

My point was have we improved significantly? Some of the headaches from last season are still with us now. We've the bones of a side, but we could never turn the entire squad around in one window. Maybe a few good results earlier in the season have heightened expectation and the new ground buzz was going to translate into a home form unbeaten. The job is still massive, we're still well short, our pigeons have come home to roost.

(Spurs starting side last night;
vicario £17m
porro £40m
danso £21m
van de ven £45m
spence £20m
palhinha £27m
bentancur £22m
johnson £47m
kudus £55m
simons £52m
muani loan from psg. Big fee to make permanent).

Care to elaborate ? And define problem whilst you're at it.
Easy really hired his good friend Nick Hammond our esteemed transfer guru who thinks he knows better than the average fan. What chaos. No right back or left back spent outrageous money on players like Dibling and Barry that look totally lost in our side. How long do you think his vision will last before this buffoon leaves a indelible mark on our club and it won’t be a good one.

Are you suggesting here that you want the person in charge of transfers to think they don't know more than the average fan?

What do you think? Or maybe I put to you what are you witnessing with team selection are you Happy? I do believe in the average fan that spends hard earned money singing in the stands over bozos in the front office. How many players are playing out of position these past few games?

I can assure you that the average fan does not know more than David Moyes.
