None of them did. It didn't cost them their future, there are multiple reasons why those teams got relegated in the seasons after they won a trophy. Swansea for example were punching well above their weight to even get into the Premier League, never mind winning a cup. We are not giving the cabal any pain by staying in the league. If you want to get back at them then the only way is to start winning trophies. If you're content with just staying in the league that's up to you but don't expect others to feel the same way.I've no idea, I just know that some had a fleeting moment of glory and it cost them their future.
Maybe I'm just old school like that. I like being a supporter of the club that's been the longest in the top league, because I know it'd be fanfare and festivals if it was someone else. The more pain Everton do to the cabal and their ghouls in the media pushing their brand for kick backs the better.
But that assumes that the cup win and both their relegation and poor later form are related and causal. How courageous were wigan as they went down and never came back?
We only made 2 subs iirc at half time and they had already scored so had gained both encouragement and were able to sit back and just counter. We made the 5 subs, some as early as half time. We played a large chunk of that game with almost our best team out.
the moving of the final, the getting turned inside out to chelsea 5-0 and the GD getting moved. But that assumes that the cup win and both their relegation and poor later form are related and causal.
What is the evidence it was down to the cup win - either all or in part?
Wasn’t their defeat vs Chelsea more down to a first half red card and Chelsea being the best side in the league that year? Did they rest players for the Chelsea game so they play could them in the cup?the moving of the final, the getting turned inside out to chelsea 5-0 and the GD getting moved.
When you put all your eggs in one basket...
wigan didn't.Wasn’t their defeat vs Chelsea more down to a first half red card and Chelsea being the best side in the league that year?
Even if you believe it played a part in their relegation, why do you think it impacted their long term future? Plenty of teams have gone down and bounced back up the next year.
That is true. But wasn’t that more down to off pitch management issues than the fact they won a cup?wigan didn't.
Try me that again please...That is true. But wasn’t that more down to off pitch management issues than the fact they won a cup?
Didn’t they have a bit of a weird owner that then handed it over to a relative ? I could well be remembering that wrong but I my recollection was he was bit Kenwright-ish.Try me that again please...
Second chance...Didn’t they have a bit of a weird owner
Give a gal a minute to look stuff up Rita, “Wigan Athletic management issues in 2015” would not be my specialist subject of choice!Second chance...
