Pretty solid day for Irish Track and Field athletes today with O'Connor's silver in the hepthatlon and McPhillips narrowly missing out on a medal in the 800m. Both future stars in the making.

Don't think the rain helped any of the relay sides, there was a mess in every race.
Looking at the medal table, considering where china were 16 years ago at the beijing olympics, they've clearly pulled funding because to lead the table to then be nowhere with a population that big? Something aint right.

I think Xi got bored of sports a while ago. There was that big push in football when it seemed like he wanted to make China a force and got bored of that after a couple of years too.

I guess when/if they get their next major international competition they will push again so they are well represented on the World stage. Of course it’s easier to do that in athletics than football though.

Seems certain parts of their athletics (swimming) they're keeping going. Also a bit surprised with such designer dope being so successful a cyclist or two hasn't come to the fore.

Been an enjoyable week of athletics though.

Hodgkinson v Hunter Bell / Mourra / Werro tomorrow will be some race.

You can still get 14/1 for Hunter Bell which seems like a great bet. She was more impressive in her SF than Hodgkinson was - and she's odds on.

I was at Tullamore AC with my daughter today, Leinster development and performance squad were training.

Great seeing all the kids stopping to watch on their phones, track and field really popular at the moment in Ireland.

Happy for her TBH, if she can inspire a load of kids from the city to get into sport and stay out of trouble its a good thing.
