Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

cadamateri got a ticket for the final game

he needs to have a word with his lad here

All three will have great academies mate, Danny can through here, there is the legacy narrative that we’d eat up, which would help this lads profile.

All three clubs will be throwing money at this, the lad has to know though that City and Chelsea are puppy farms, pups squired and sold on.

City just signed Haaaland to a ten year deal, while Chelsea have an A and B squad and just signed Delap, I can’t remember the last one to come through there and make a name for themselves in their team.

We need to sell ourselves and Moyes needs to trot out all the young players he’s brought through and developed.

That would be my pitch anyway.

I’m delighted we are even competing for these players to be honest, shows identification and intention - if we’re competing for the best Young players at other clubs Chelsea and City want that a very good thing, both in terms of the future if the team but also managing PSR - puppy farming has been the backbone of their PSR/Tranfer kitties in the recent past.

£30m is a lot to spend on one player. If we want a good level striker we will need to pay more. We also need to sign about half a squad. So, no. We won't be paying top dollar for players. £30m isn't a lot for a striker. We paid about that for Beto. Delap was only so cheap because of a release clause. At that price it would have been stupid not to try.

Stop being such an objectionable smart arse. But, I imagine with the way you conduct yourself that that's totally beyond you. As I said, stick me on ignore rather than mocking me and generally being a nasty piece of work. You could totally have ignored me if you didn't want to engage. But, no, you like to prod and provoke. Which is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post about people using this forum to be nasty, condescending or mean-spirited to others.
Just pointing out that we are hardly likely to be ‘ in the bargain basement’ when we have just bid 30 mil for delap

Common sense really

its a very compelling argument

my worry is its quite clear that city and chelsea have two of the best talent development systems in the world

so even if he doesnt play for them, he might develop into a better footballer there, but get his opportunities elsewhere

Maybe, I think the value for a young striker who’s just scored a respectable amount in his first season was an opportunity too good to not explore, so they were comfortable bidding. I don’t think they’ll be too quick to drop that amount elsewhere. We probably have one ‘big’ signing in us this window with multiple other smart pick ups in the teens/20 mil region. I can’t see us spending 30+ on more than one player.

To be fair mate, I don’t think we’re slouches ourselves we can point to Gordon, Branthwaite and Armstrong who have come through here in recent years, even in our lowest ebb - there is a pathway here to PL football. That’s an angle we have - we’re also going to improve, so we can sell a project on the up.

Looking at the bid we can also point to DCL who came the club in similar circumstances and gone on to have a PL career and get picked for England.

What are you on about?
Finding a 20+ goal a season striker for the right price and with no competition from other clubs and willing to choose us is going to be like finding rocking horse turd. So I'm saying our focus should be on the creative assist type positions to get the best out of our current strikers and try and make them 20+ goals a year. It may work, it may not but this will be the first of many steps over the next few years to build the right squad that will compete

Perhaps. It certainly won’t be ‘bargain basement’ as doomers are saying

Sentiment aside, I genuinely believe we can sell ourselves to the lad. Unfortunately, the same can be said about City and Chelsea. Perhaps it will come down to how quickly we can offer him the route he desires? Give him some guarantees, the ones that exist e.g. first team opportunities (within reason). City and Chelsea can't offer that. As you said, they are farms that send to slaughter.
