….ESPN now saying he’s agreed personal terms with United but I’d imagine every club speaking to him have been prepared to meet his financial demands. If it’s the case, we might know more in the next few hours.
Pretty sure he'll have agreed personal terms with all the clubs he's visited.

Villa's horror show against United is all the more annoying having given the barcodes Champions League to dangle in front of him.

I wouldn't blame him if he thinks he has better options than Everton at this time

But if he decides to join United I would find that absolutely baffling.

Yes they are a huge club, but they already have a lot of forwards, they are about to sign Cunha, so he's not guaranteed any game time, and it's so difficult to perform there as a young player.

There's better ways to build us up than having to point to when we were good a century ago. Times have changed, no one outside of blues cares about it.
Don’t entirely disagree with your last sentence, but if we disallow the bulk of our history , how do we sell a club that has achieved nothing in 30years ?
That’s a hard sell

Is it not that way now, it still is two players but most people think it's GK and an outfield player because it is most of the time but if the keeper were out of his area for whatever reason, it will fall on 2 defenders.

I could be wrong, been a while since I looked at rules.
But that’s a variation of the offside rule when play is behind the keeper. The rule change back then to be onside was:

Attacker

Defender Defender

Keeper

he would have been class as offside with today’s rule of just 1 defender between attacker and keeper.

Before the 2 defenders, it used to be 3

Going to clubs like City and Chelsea for CL makes sense because they are almost certain to be in the competition every year and have the resources to advance deep into the competition.

Newcastle only qualified because both Villa and Forest managed to lose on the last day even though Newcastle also lost. Three CL chasing teams all lose when the had the chance to qualify tells us something about them.
The fact that Newcastle did get into the CL just shows how poor the league was this season.

Don’t think champions league or europa league would make a difference in whether he picks them over us. Right now you see where they’re at compared to us and how well they’ve done over last few seasons, their project is up and running and in full flow ours is just getting started. But definitely the kind of signings we should be looking at making

The big massive stadium we've just built would be a good start. State of the art and best in the country. The atmosphere and passion of the fans would be another.

After that it's probably going to have to take a (hopefully short term) rebrand of us being a good stepping stone to 'bigger' things like we did with Lukaku and Stones. Like Brighton but as a bigger club where we can say we will get you into the window of the elite teams.

Players aren't going to care about players who were good when their great great grandads were alive when other clubs have had Drogba, Rooney, Shearer, Aguero whilst they were growing up. We need to be pitching that we can get them to that level or at least they will become a cult hero like Richarlison who we turned into Brazils number 9.

It's a pretty tough sell but Moshiri was partly right in that we don't want to become a museum, we need to be looking forwards.

I'm not convinced. A good Palace side beat mega money man city in the fa cup. newcastle beat the league winners to win the coca-cola cup. spurs beat man utd in the europa whatever final. chelsea will win their final this weekend in the third tier euro league cup thing. arsenal made the CL semis. the rs won the league by 10 points. That so much except relegations were decided final day shows the league was at least competitive.

We have been made punch drunk with league survival scares so regular, that we don't know how to handle a much milder run in.

Strange thing is, next season with 9 out of 20 PL teams involved in europe in some fashion, there'll be hangovers in form for those sides. chelsea have been a jekyll and hyde team all season, with a squad that is stacked beyond places to give them all games, so even with such a headache of riches, sometimes more is less. They've got CL football and likely a cup.

Realistically we're probably his best option.
He's going to come in as first choice.

We'll pay him comparable wages if not match all of his other offers.

There's the least pressure to hit the ground running out of all the sides he's linked with.

He has the best chance of having a team built around him here.

And as they're now suggesting, we'll probably be the most willing to let him leave for a reasonable fee if we don't improve in line with his demands

If he fails at a Chelsea or utd he'd have to take a step back to rebuild his career, and isak at Newcastle is already a top top player to play second fiddle to

Players don’t care about architecture.
They care about trophies and wages .
And all clubs have passionate supporters, we aren’t the exception we sometimes imagine.
That leaves us ,as you rightly point out , as a middling club who may provide a stepping stone to better things .
Hardly inspiring or overly enticing?
I won’t be getting my Dixie tattoo covered by a rendering of the Hill Dickinson Stadium just yet !
