Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I have fond but vague memories of about 10 of us descending on Abersoch / Hells Mouth for a camping holiday maybe around 1970 ish, two cars and a scooter. We left it too late to find a campsite after going to the pub and had to politely ask if we could pitch our tents in the garden of this huge house. It was owned by a kind old lady who had a butler/ manservant or something. Two hours later it was absolutely pouring it down , we were drenched and the lady of the house took pity on us and allowed us to sleep in the Morning Room or something. An act of kindness I don’t think you’d get in our modern , suspicious world.
Hope the fracture doesn’t cause too much discomfort Val , apparently Metacalm daily works well, at least that’s what we gave Daisy for her fracture 👍
She told you it was the butler ! I bet it should have been the evening room .What a gesture ,my BIL went around the world and told many stories of kindness .This world is not as bad as the press would have you think ---in most places .

Morning all from a sunny Abersoch. Well when I said that I wanted a short break I should have been careful what I wished for. The urgent care unit have just contacted me to say I have a small fracture on my elbow and could I go in to get it slinged up. So I asked them if I just couldn’t get one from a chemist and they said yes. No need to shorten our little holiday ☺️. Unbelievably this is the first bone I have ever broken in my life. I thought there was something not right due to the pain and bruising.
Have a lovely day everyone 💙
Sorry to read this, hope it’s not causing you too much pain and heals quickly. Be careful in the crowds on Sunday.💙

Sorry Val , only just seen this , my sense of humour I’m afraid. Daisy is our cat , Metacam certainly helped her pain relief from her fracture ….but not everybody wants a shiny coat 😉
Oh I fell for that one- it might be cheaper than my hair conditioner tbh. I do have form with animal meds. I once found some chocolate in the cupboard when I lived at home with my mum and sister and thought - I’m having that. Only later when my sister asked if anyone had seen where the chocolate was that she’d hidden the dogs meds in…..
And that didn’t do me any harm - or did it 🐶

It's funny really ; as you might, or might not know, my mother died last year, and the most odd occurrences make me remember her. Flicking through the Radio Times I noticed that the Guns of Navorone is on. It was her favourite film and she watched it religiously every time it was on, and insisted that Navarone was pronounced with an emphasis on the last E- ee.

I got quite maudlin when I saw the listing, I'm sure these inconsequential things will trigger memories as the months and years roll by, but I suppose that's an integral part of life.

Drink of course may have paid a part of of my self pity.

I believe that was your Mum guiding your hand to see that film listing. She is always by your side and little things like today are not just coincidence.

Along those lines, at my sister’s funeral we played Yesterday, and exactly a year to the day of her funeral I was driving along and Yesterday came on the radio and I hadn’t heard the song in between the year,

Hairs on the back of neck stood up

It's weird isn't it, I'm in no way a gardener, but I needed to feed my quince bush as it was looking distinctly flaccid. As I was clearing the detritus from around it I came across a hand written piece of card written by her marking a plant, in the Latin nomenclature. For a moment it just stopped me in my tracks.

Its the small things like that, that I find l trigger the most emotions. Any time I venture into a Marks and Spencer Food Hall and see 'lightly dusted plaice' I immediately think of my Mum. She loved it - but it had to be M and S!
