Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

My worry is that if he does stay he’ll still be the number 1 striker and we’ll just go out and buy/loan a backup standard striker. DCL has shown over a number of seasons he can’t be relied on, be that his goalscoring record or his lengthy spells on the treatment table.
Valid. I think we should try to resign him, but i also think he should be a squad player, with us signing better in the summer.

Biggest issue with DCL is his injury record. I do think he would do better under Moyes than Dyche. He is by far our best striker at the moment. He has everything you'd want from a number nine except the most important, goalscoring ability. I don't think he will ever be great at that but he's really good at link-up play, he can actually trap the ball and pass to a teammate. He's one of the best strikers in the league with his head. He's pretty smart, makes more correct choices than most strikers. He's relatively quick, not a speed merchant but can beat defenders with pace.

Unfortunately his finishing, especially in one-on-ones is rubbish. Not the first striker who is a decent finisher as long as he doesn't have to think about finishing. The more time he has to think what to do the more likely he'll make a mess out of it. And of course his fitness record is poor. I would imagine other clubs have been looking at that as well and interest has twindled.

His good spell under Ancelotti wasn't because he was suddenly all-around much better. He just finished his chances and he was fit. Part of the issue with his finishing could also be under Dyche that a striker in Dyche's team doesn't get many chances in a match so the pressure to score from one of them is high. Getting more chances could ease that. But I don't if anything can be done with his fitness record. He has had lots of hamstring issues and I have no idea if that can even be helped.

Would not be surprised if DCL stayed on a 2 year contract. There needs to be realism from both the club and player as to his worth. For me he can be a useful squad player but we need to look for better in a starting role, and have to recruit as such this summer.

That would mean Beto leaving surely, and I'm fine with that as it would bring some money in.

We need a new option up front, and if DCL stays, I'd still be looking for two forwards, one permanent that I'd hope would be the regular starter, and another on loan.

Think i said something similar the beginning of last season when we were having an XG of 104 goals a game.

The way the ball falls, or drops to a player is important and doesn't get regulated in XG, a Dyche team is very 'snap at the chance' were other sides build up play may be alot more controlled.

E.g a shot from 6 yards out for Man City is likely to be from a cut back, while a shot from 6 yards out in a Dyche team is likely to have been pinging around the box with players throwing themselves around everywhere

Retaining non value add players, injury plagued or past sell by date is NOT good business for everyone.

We have a world football market - USE it Everton
It makes financial sense. Beto is clearly not good enough & Chermiti needs to go out on loan. Spending money on just one striker when we also need so many other positions filled makes sense. Any half-decent PL striker will be at least 20 million. Maybe a bit cheaper from the continent, but those guys always come with added risk. And most PL clubs are looking for strikers.
