Thats a good point. I remember a young Barkleys loan move was a dud and Moyes had warned Warnock not to trust him without the ball

In this case, Eustace seems to pretty much 100% trust him in a critical position 90mins a game. Also, as you say he compliments him a fair bit so what Armstrong is doing must be the managers instructions.

Simple things like doing what youre tasked to do can and have given some footballers great careers.

Its also notable that hes captained England youth. Combined, it bodes well for his character.

I think what we have seen he has ability but to bring it altogether is as you say is all about character which is a very good point
That can't be taught as easily!

Barry, Carrick and Ballack were all champions league level players. I've seen nothing to suggest Armstrong will even be a bog standard premier league player. Let's not get carried away.
Playing championship football at 18 is no mean feat.

He’s highly regarded at FF and elsewhere, Arsenal and City were having a sniff around in the winter pre takeover.

No youngster is guaranteed to become anything, but he’s clearly talented. I do think people expecting him to be near the first team next season are in for a shock. Just look at how badly each promoted side have struggled in the last few years, the gulf between the leagues is widening.

He’d be eaten alive in the middle currently in the prem. Loads to like though and he’s not even filled out his frame yet, 6’2 I think so once he fills out properly he could be a decent presence.

I have watched him a few times and he is playing as a deep lying almost defensive midfielder and has done a good job in a relegation fight. He has been disciplined in the job he has been asked to do by Eustace who has said as much. We have seen him further up the pitch at Everton and he has done well. In my humble opinion I think he deserves a opportunity in preseason Friendly's I think this lad will get more of a chance with Moyes than Barkley did because he follows the managers directions. Finger crossed he does well1🤞
Barkley was a generational talent and that was pretty obvious from the first time he played for us. Armstrong might be that but I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest he is so far other than the fact he is young.

Nothing to suggest he will make it so far. Some players are highly rated at every level like Barkley, Rooney, Baxter, Osman, Roswell. Even those guys aren't guaranteed successes. I remember the Moore twins at Villa who won the FA youth cup against Rooney and ripped it up at that level. Did absolutely nothing in the pro game. The odds are that he won't make it. If he does great but we should manage our expectations.

So you're saying he's great at being young.

Yep, if a 23 year old had put in that performance today none of us would touch him with a barge pole. Some people assume because he’s young he must be good. But the vast majority of young players turn out to be pants and there is very little evidence to suggest Armstrong will be one of the few that make it.

With all due respect, what are you talking about?
He's just turned 18, is playing at a very high level.
The thinking is that if he keeps improving and getting more experience, he'll be a great player in 5 years, hopefully sooner.
He's shown more than enough to warrant optimism.
