Beer, revisited

View attachment 302776

Had a couple of these last night - Camden Stout ( 4%)

Much better than I expected. Smoky and quite sweet, like a mild mixed with a stout.
I drank a lot of Camdon Town Pale Ale when I was in London a few years ago.

I liked so much that I souvenired the glass of my last pint of it. The one with BEER in big letters on it.

I love taking it with me to bbq's.

Peerless have got two new top notch beers out. I have to confess that I drank them in Wetherspoons, but only after I'd been on a long walk and I was gasping. Have to say they were in top top condition.

Tasty

This was exceptional, and a deceiving 6.2%, you could drink many of these and bugger the consequences the next day.

Must admit I haven't got a major issue with Wetherspoons. Reasonable range of beers at affordable prices. Main negative for me is the size of the pubs, never found one that was "homely" which is my ideal of a local.

My biggest gripe against Spoons, is that they serve their ale chilled, which means they get to squeeze a few more days out of each barrel.

Can see the logic of that policy, from a business point of view. The other "allegation" or suspicion that I have heard is that they buy up overstocked beers near their use by date. No idea if this is the case but as long as the price is kept reasonable I can live with it.

Never heard of 'fresh ale', looks like one big con.

It’s a keg pump, masquerading as cask.

My local trialled the “ fresh “ version of Doom Bar for a few weeks, but not one single person who tried it went back for seconds, so it got binned.

It tastes like a hybrid version of real ale and keg bitter = muck.

It's just a snide advertising gimmick by a conglomerate who are taking punters for a ride. Luckily, I wouldn't drink any of their crap, but for people who didn't know about it it's verging on fraud.

It’ll fall flat on its arse.

Real ale drinkers won’t drink it.
Lager drinkers won’t drink it.
The likes of John Smiths drinkers won’t drink it.

The only place it would possibly sell, would be at places where the punters are “ captive “ and don’t have a choice - hotels, sports stadiums, railway stations etc.

Currently having a pint of caffreys with in a lovely little pub at roa island.

Also had the first pint of murphys in the railway in ormskirk last night when I had a bit of time to wait for the train. They had just finished installing the pump and said I was the first one to have a pint of it in there.

Then off to the pub later to sink a decent few veltins.

Elite bank holiday drinking.
