Remember when I'd go there in a previous life with 20 quid and absolutely lap up the £1.20 warm plastic bottles of Carlsberg.

Rrrrr too be young and in shorts.

Maybe, tbf I rarely went in there in it's previous incarnation, sometimes you just like a pub, and vice versa - anyway, I don't like change !

The beer was consistently dreadful, a bit like the Cambridge.

Hopefully the new owners have pulled their socks up, as there`s a lot of competition around there now.

Yeah same went in there towards the end of last year...Definitely improved but the bar was set very low.

It could be an gold mine that place especially with it outside space.

If I was to ever get back into the pub game the 3 pubs I'd like a go with would be The Caledonia,The Cambridge and The Oxford which has been shut for a while but i love the building,it just needs some TLC.

I tried to get in touch with the owners about 4 years ago but to no avail.


That land will no about be sold for student accommodation at some point.

It's owned by Punch Tavern. The old landlord died a few years back, although his wife Carol still inhabits the pub by paying a tenant's rent.

I'd contact Punch if you were serious about taking it over.

Ha, unique undersells the place. I had some brilliant times in there, and after it closed, many of the mad members of clientele moved onto the Cambo.

The jukebox choice was a lottery because a carefully selected song could send a few of the regulars into meltdown.

Someone mentioned Higsons Pale recently, got one in The Northwestern as we speak, very nice pint and their best bitter was one of the best in the festival at Hulme Hall last week.

Was down in Lewes on the south coast this weekend. There’s a relatively new brewery there called Abyss which does some nice stuff

Beak is there too which does some lovely stuff too

Was in The Pilgrim Friday, done up pretty well without really changing too much, better seating in the centre and better use of the space towards the back.

Was still cheap aswell tbf, house spirits £3.75 a double, £2.95 a pint of Carnaby Pilsner, would struggle to find anything half decent that cheap in town nowadays.
