2024/25 Jordan Pickford

At this level, with these players and their precision, exposing that much of the goal from that distance is approaching a tap in level of mistake. Fernandes hasn’t hit that with anything like his max power which makes the precision piece so much easier. I don’t think it’s worth sugarcoating it. It was a bad error.

And I’ll whisper it but the Ugarte goal wasn’t exactly unstoppable or in the corner either.

You also have to remember throughout his really consistent period for us, we have been absolutely terrible.

We have seen many a player jump ship and put the wheels in motion to get out of here as quick as possible.

Pickford, for some mental reason, has been more than happy to stay here, which i just cant really understand why, so i just put it down to him being mad.
Aren't he and his family pretty happy and settled in the area? If you've got young kids like he does, that's a pretty good reason not to pick everything up and leave.

Also, I imagine he just enjoys being in on the action the way he's always been at Everton. Sure, he'd win more if he went somewhere like City, Arsenal or Chelsea. But he'd also spend most of every game just standing around watching everything unfold at the other end of the pitch.

Well said. Really gotta hand it to him for staying with us. You could call it loyalty, you could call it trust. And with trust should come respect, right?

Some people have a really hard time with giving him credit no matter what. There's a billion reasons why, but especially the nature of modern fickle squawka-[Poor language removed] football fandom is surely taking some blame.

Fact is he is shouldering a massive amount of responsibility (and respect, allegedly) in his standing. But his goofy personality is just the perfect match for bantz, name-calling and ragebait takers.

Maybe it's like, the perfect way of coping with it for him. That man is surely living a disiplined, healthy life, right?

Yeah and for those people saying "he should challenge himself" at a big club, etc, etc, there's something to be said for these two things:

1) To your point he's happy here, he's arguably a big fish in small(er) pond and he gets to truly impact games.
2) He has been England's number 1 for two World Cup cycles with no signs of that changing anytime soon. He's getting the "big game" part of what you'd want in a career from the International stage.

If he is part of a team that gets Everton into Europe, into the Champions League even, he'd be a god given where we've been as a club. Not everyone needs to play for Real Madrid to have a successful and fulfilling career. The grass isn't always greener, no matter how much money you're getting paid.

This is just not based in reality though. If we sold Pickford before the deductions we would've went down. We would've had a worse keeper who wasn't capable of pulling off any one of the double save vs Chelsea, the penalty save vs Leicester or the saves vs Bournemouth just off the top of my head. We would not have reinvested the funds and definitely wouldnt have improved. As for saying he cost us points in deductions, 'he' cost us like 9 million pounds in places dropped. It would've been closer to 90 million if he was sold.

Take one look at the level of keepers the other relegation candidates had/have. Pickford is a decisive factor in us still being a premier league team. This big brain thinking really isn't as smart as you think.

This is the craziest take ive ever heard in all my life. The 4 saves mentioned not a single one was a hard save to make.

There’s this incredible concept of opportunity cost though that we’d also maybe have to consider.

Appreciate the condescending tone, I did consider that we’d be worse off with a worse goalie and some dough in Farhad’s pocket (or another Bolasie, Tosun, etc. brought in by the world class scouts that got the squad in this position)

Not sure how there is a debate, apart from those looking to start one. Pickford has been in an utterly sh**e team for years. This means he is making a ridiculous number of saves and big decisions every match when compared to the likes of Becker. How well would he have faired playing in our team the last five years?!? There are proper WUM's on here and we should all just set them on 'ignore'. If nobody replies to them they'll soon go back to their own forum and be able to have a big w*** fest over Salah & co.
There's one huge WUM who has a clear dislike, for whatever reason (perhaps it's cool to go against the grain), regarding our number one.
I guess that poster feels relevant as people are engaging with him/her.
There's generally 39,200 of us in GP week in week out who witness what a quality goalkeeper we have...there'll always be the odd one sat on a forum who feels the need to be polar opposite.

Listen to Gordon Banks here....ffs

This thread is going down the "Lukaku is lazy" head bangery vibe.
I'm genuinely shocked that this thread isn't just people going

"He's sound, close thread."

What is there to say now? I see Big Yank is pulling him over the goals on the weekend but I think he hasn't been a problem for ages.

He's definitely at the point where he has so much credit in the bank that any (rare) individual error is water off a duck's arse for me.
