2024/25 Michael Keane

….you can’t ’get rid’ of players who don’t want to go. It’s often the case for ordinary footballers on extraordinary contracts. Saying that, it’s come a point where we need him as cover so it was unlikely he’d been allowed to go in January even if he was prepared to leave.

Prepare yourself, given our desperate contract situation, it’s not impossible that the likes of Keane and Doucoure could be offered new deals
As I've said before it's probably easier to get free transfers in from somewhere else and pay them £40k a week than it is to ask Keane and Doucoure to take a 60% wage cut to stay for another year.

Just like you can't sign players who don't want to come.

Sorry my bad i wish people would stop telling david moyes, that michael keane is a good finisher.
My apologies mate just trying to brighten my mood with a derby approaching.

On the Keane front it identifies how short we are but it’s not like pushing someone upfront is totally alien , pretty sure the RS did it yesterday .

The fella is a decent finisher for a centre half but clearly not a striker . Given our options , which are terrifyingly bare , I might have done it . Different conversation at halftime but im personally not a fan of throwing kids on when the game is effectively lost as it feels it’ll do more damage than good .

I do agree with anyone saying that Keane upfront isn’t a viable strategy but we are where we are I suppose .

….i doubt they’d be offered a deal with significant wage reduction unless it was for another 2 seasons.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they were offered 12 months on similar terms because we’ll need numbers and both are settled at the club, Doucoure still a regular.

Yeah but from my point of view listen, moyes comes in notices we need a striker, then one of his first interviews with the press he is talking about people at the club saying keanes one of the best finishers in the squad. So then we swerve an attacker and play keane upfront? Maybe if people was quiet about his finishing we would of had one who knows

I wouldn't be surprise either mate, i suspect he may want games.

I see your point but I wasn’t exactly excited by the moyes appointment but the idea a manager with 700 premier league matches was swayed by a question from giulia bould doesn’t ring true with me .

I dont get how it doesnt ring true, he says when he first comes need new attackers, and keeps saying it the rest of the window, obviously the PSR stuff aswell, then hes says to the press about keane being a good finisher. So then hes playing upfront?

for me I can’t imagine one of the most experienced premier league managers in history chose a tactic because a reporter asked a question. for me it feels more likely that he watched his squad train over a number of weeks and felt Keane upfront for 5 mins was the best of a bad bunch .

You disagree and we’ve no way of knowing which of us is right , that’s the beauty of us chatting rubbish online . if you are right though I hope at the next press conference nobody suggestions playing Pickford as a holding midfielder or we’re in a world of pain !
