I tend to group fixtures into, "top 6" games v "none top 6" games. Honestly, probably playing sides who aren't relegation rivals, like your Fulham's or to a degree your Newcastle's, Brighton's etc becomes a bit easier in some ways.

We have 4 top 6 teams to play. That's about average. Our run in from game 30 is very favourable.

Any fan of a club in the bottom half of the table this evening who says that they are “confident “ is a big fibber or completely deranged.

There are 9 quite flawed teams. Each have good points, but lots of drawbacks. If I'm Palace fan, I'm clinging to the fact you have a good run in once your through the Arsenal game. But Christ you may be 12 without a win by then, and the pressure is enormous.

Every club in the bottom 9 would be sniffing for Dyche if he was available. Perhaps that's what's putting off now Z he's obviously not.

I said a few weeks ago when we beat Leeds that if I supported another club in the relegation fight I'd be absolutely gutted watching Everton get the benefit of Dyche's organisation. We had a couple of wobbles after that but the last two games has confirmed that view.

I mean there's a lot of work to be done yet, but I'm quietly confident this feller has fashioned a way of playing that the players are on board with and can carry out effectively.

I think we have a mixed bag of games remaining spread across top of the table outfits, mid table outfits and relegation threatened outfits.

And when you look at what we've done since Dyche's appointment it's been to take on and beat a top team (Arsenal), a mid-table team (Brentford) and a relegation rival (Leeds). The only thing to prove now is that we can do it on the road, and we nearly achieved that last week at Forest.

We cant be complacent because we're right in the thick of this mess still, but there are real causes for optimism based on what we've seen so far under the new manager.

Saints fixtures over the next six to eight weeks are against either top 4 contenders or relegation battlers.
No middle ground except Brentford on Wednesday.

That's tough for me.

Be nice for us to get a point at worst v Chelsea. Two teams who struggle to score.

You’d like to think Brentford won’t want to lose two in a row after being 12 unbeaten. Hopefully there’ll be a reaction to make it difficult for Southampton.

Actually, I think that Brentford game might be the most difficult fixture we face for the remainder of the season - including the home game with City because we'll be committed to defending for most of that one I suspect.

Brentford have been flying and they and we knew we not only had to keep them at arms length but take the game to them to get a win. They came out second half looking to show how good they are at this point in time. A form team with no real weakness and we saw them off and could have been out of sight by HT in all honesty.

Arsenal will have a big say. In their 11 remaining games they play:

Palace
Leeds
West Ham
S'ton
Forest
Wolves.
