I see the point you are trying to make. Almost drawing parallels with the pragmatic Woy. Even if we stay up any manager would struggle to finish consistently in the top half with us as we are financially handicapped combined with being poorly set-up off the field. Just look what happened in January. Nearly all the relegation clubs invested (some heavily except Palace who probably thought they were safe) and we sold one of our biggest assets and bought in nobody. If we stay up up I suspect Pickford will be gone before the accounting year end and Dyche will be given a modest budget to try and keep us up again. This is not sustainable and will definitely result in us getting relegated at some point.

It is worth noting though Dyche finished 6th with Burnley so definitely capable of getting us top half but consistently not very unlikely unless there are big changes off the field. Having spent some time researching Dyche and his methods there is a bit more to him than I initially thought. He will get the opportunity to work with better players here than he had at Burnley as we can pay bigger wagers even if we can’t pay big transfer fees any longer. Will be interesting to see how it evolves but survival this season is key as it is for Palace

Honestly think if and it’s still a big if we stay up, then the club will be sold and that could be a whole new picture.

Fairly decent weekend regarding results around us except the the inhaler sniffers, but we can’t be bothered about what’s going on around us.

We just need to keep handling our business, and I think the large amount of teams currently in the brown stuff with us helps - they can’t all best each other and win. No team is going to fancy coming to Goodison to face this new hardworking, scrapping, battling Everton side, especially now the sirens are back.

If Dyche can get a tune out of the lads away from home we are absolutley laughing, and hopefully DCL is back after the international break for the run in.

Keep the faith - support the team; sack the board.

Nah. My take is we need to sit above 3 teams. If we can't get above those 2 then we're goosed. Look up not down.

No argument with your point but not sure how it relates to mine particularly when both of those two were below us but despite us getting some decent results both of them are above us in the form table for the last 5 games. Real chance one of them could survive and that matters.

Sorry yes you are right. It would have been better if those results had gone the other way. I guess when I looked at the table a while back I reckoned we were so deep in the mire that our only shot relied on those two being dead and buried.

Just to add a bit of meat to the bones for this..

At the time of Dyche appointment we were

9 points behind Palace.
6 behind Forest
4 behind Leeds
3 behind Leicester and West Ham
2 behind Bournemouth

Yes, you have to add, which was what I said (or at least implied). I think Dyche is terrific at what he does but don’t think his style of play is suited to (say) getting Everton to a top 6 place.
Zaha won’t be the big miss everyone outside Palace thinks. He is 30 now, he is already not what he was. Sure, he will need to be replace carefully but the “Palace are ****ed without Zaha” is a myth.

Yeah tbh was more about him playing cf not sure about the other center forwards you have. Agree with that dyche does have to step up a level. I have been surprised by the style dyche has got us to play this season has played better football than i thought. Same with viera for me i thought started off amazing with palace but has really fallen off now,

Any fan of a club in the bottom half of the table this evening who says that they are “confident “ is a big fibber or completely deranged.

Agree is horrible down the bottom results have changed every week.

I've been surprised how he's come across. I only paid him cursory attention when he was at Burnley, so I thought he'd be a larger than life figure whose knocking heads together and being quite vocal behind the scenes as well as on the touchline.

I can see now that he's a lot more thoughtful than that and very astute about how he brings a team together and conducts himself with them in mind.

He's been impressive in a non-showy kind of way.

Agree i have been really happy since he has come in has been a complete change from lampard, and with a weaker squad has just got on with it and pushes the squad each game.

Southampton go level on points with us if they beat Brentford at home on Wednesday night.

Yeah we still have to hope results go for us but brentford are a very good team is not an easy game at all hopefully they can win

I don’t know why Vieira doesn’t play him on his own! We’re better with him than without him but his impact is diminishing.

Completely agree on Palace and Forest. I’ve watched a hell of a lot of our rivals games lately. I actually think Southampton will be OK, the new fella that’s come in has had a good impact and they’ve got a fair bit going for them up front now.

If I was feeling optimistic and not including us in the eventual bottom 3, I’d go for Forest, Palace and Bournemouth for the drop. Hope Palace don’t go down as they’re a proper club that I have time for, but their recent form is very poor and I suspect Leeds will have enough about them.

Leicester, Wolves and West Ham don’t really enter my thinking and should all be OK, but I’d like them to prove me wrong.

I haven't got a clue who will go down. A week ago I'd have said Everton , Bournemouth and Southampton. Now I just can't say with any certainty

I think the guy at Southampton has started ok, but will peter out when it comes to the crunch. They have to win mid week.

As for the final 3, I just can't accept that mate. You can make a case for Wolves probably being ok, but they are far from out of it. Leicester have lost 4 straight, and West Ham have 2 wins in 14. They are the sort of runs, when into the second half of a season don't really get sorted and cause you to be in amongst it all of the way.
I suppose more broadly, my point would be, if you are within 3 points of the drop zone, with around 10 games left, you are likely a poor team who will struggle.

The other cavaet with Wolves, who are probably the best, is they finish with 2 away games at United and Arsenal in their final 3. That is 0 points for them. If they are leaving anything for them finl 3 games, it is going to be enormous pressure on them. They probably need to be at 34/35 by 35 games. They should be fine, but it's something to consider.
