‘I Know Nothing About it’: David Moyes on Rumours of Beto Everton Exit

Everton manager David Moyes has insisted he is not aware of a deal for Beto this month.

The forward has been linked with a January departure, with Super Lig side Fenerbahçe interested.

The Turkish outfit reportedly met with Beto’s representatives to discuss the details of the move this week.

However, David Moyes insists he is not aware of a deal for the 27-year-old. Speaking at his press conference today ahead of Monday’s game against Leeds, the Scot said: “I know nothing about it at the moment, no.

“We wouldn’t [be prepared to let him go] because we’ve not got enough [forwards].”

BETO NOT GOOD ENOUGH, BUT WITH NO SIGN OF INCOMINGS, WE CAN’T AFFORD TO LET HIM GO

Everton are light in the striking department, to say the least, with Thierno Barry Moyes’ only other option.

Barry has found some form lately, scoring the winner at Villa Park last weekend.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 22 league games so far this season, having struggled to settle since his summer transfer.

Meanwhile, Beto has found the net just twice in 22 Premier League appearances. The Guinea-Bissau forward also scored once in the League Cup, with a total of three goals in 25 games.

As underwhelming as those numbers are, Moyes doesn’t really have any other options. Unless a replacement is lined up, the club can’t really afford to let Beto leave.

We’re unlikely to progress much further until such deadwood is cleared, but with a paper thin squad, our hands seem to be tied.

With our transfer window yet to get going, incomings do not look likely at this stage. Indeed, with injuries still hampering Moyes’ match-day options, we appear to be going with what we’ve got.

There’s little over a week to go until the transfer deadline. If we plan on doing any business at all, we’re leaving it late.
