Everton have confirmed that midfielder Jack Grealish has suffered a foot injury.
The Toffees have released a statement this evening revealing that Grealish is currently under the care of the club’s medical team.
The brief statement did not confirm the extent of the injury. However, it stated that the 30-year-old is to be seen by a specialist, with further information released in due course.
It’s precisely the kind of kick in the teeth we’ve come to expect this season. Just as key players return to the squad, others are forced to withdraw.
Indeed, the Blues welcome back Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye ahead of Monday’s game against Leeds.
The pair have been a big miss for David Moyes, missing seven consecutive games whilst at AFCON.
The precise date for their return has yet to be confirmed, though returning from Morocco injury-free is a boost.
BLUES SUFFER ANOTHER INJURY BLOW AHEAD OF IMPORTANT FIXTURE
Moyes has been without as many as nine senior figures of late, with Grealish’s injury coming as a massive blow.
The England international was instrumental in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Villa Park. Indeed, the victory got Everton back on track after three games without a win.
Grealish has been the club’s primary creative outlet this season, with six assists and two goals, both of them late winners.
However, his ability to draw a foul, particularly in the final third, has been key. He will be a huge miss against Leeds, and it remains to be seen just how many games he’ll be unavailable for.
The news comes just as Kiernan-Dewsbury Hall, Charley Alcaraz and Tim Iroegbunam are beginning to make their way back from injury.
We had a good 48 hours there, Blues.
