David Moyes expressed his delight after Everton produced a spirited second-half comeback to beat in-form Crystal Palace 2-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon — a result that ended Palace’s remarkable 19-game unbeaten run.
Jack Grealish struck in the 93rd minute to seal victory for the Blues, after Iliman Ndiaye’s penalty had earlier cancelled out the visitors’ first-half opener. The win lifts Everton to eighth in the Premier League table and extends their strong home form under Moyes.
Reflecting on the performance, Moyes told evertontv:
“I’m thrilled with the three points, thrilled with the result. Mixed emotions on the performance. Not very good at all in the first half and could have been three down, but kept defending, kept stuck at it, showed a bit of resilience.
“I’ve been waiting on a late goal here. Aston Villa was 0-0, we couldn’t quite get the winner against West Ham, so I was hoping we’d get one of them. Thankfully, we got it today.”
The Everton boss praised the influence of half-time substitutes Charly Alcaraz and Beto, both of whom injected energy and urgency into the team after a sluggish opening 45 minutes.
“I think maybe a bit of mentality,” explained Moyes. “We started the game really poorly. We gave away two or three long throw-ins, two or three corner kicks. We never got a chance to get a grip to the game at all.
“I thought the subs made a huge difference to us today. So, look, I’m thrilled we got a big victory.
“And I have to say, I thought [Palace] played really, really well. So, for as much as we are saying that we were bad, which we were, I thought they played really well. And their system is difficult to cope with. We knew that.”
