Report: Everton Interested in Brazil International, but Face Competition from West Ham

Everton are reportedly showing interest in Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus.

With the summer window now in the rear view mirror, reports are suggesting David Moyes will look to strengthen again in January.

It’s been abundantly clear in the early weeks of the season that further investment is required upfront.

Beto has underperformed, while new arrival Thierno Barry looks raw and will need time to adjust to the Premier League.

Moyes has spoken of the club’s financial limitations when trying to attract top attacking talent.

Speaking after the derby defeat last week, Moyes said: “I’ve said many times, and I’ll say that again and I repeat myself, we don’t have the 70s or 80s [million pounds] or even more it takes to buy certain players.

“We’ve had to buy within our means and we’ll hugely support the ones we’ve got because they’ll score us goals and I’m sure they’ll get quite a few by the end of the season.”

JESUS HAS STAR QUALITY EVERTON CURRENTLY LACK UPFRONT

However, a striker is a must come the January transfer window, with current options few and unreliable.

Gabriel Jesus has emerged as a potential target, as the Brazilian looks to play his way into the nation’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

The 28-year-old has been out since last December with a knee injury, but is reportedly looking to rebuild his career.

With Mikel Arteta investing in Viktor Gyokeres during the summer, reports suggest Jesus will look for a January move.

Everton could be a destination for the former Manchester City forward, though Monday’s opponents West Ham are interested.

However, a return to his homeland could be on the cards, with Brazilian outfit Flamengo tempted by the striker.

Jesus’ current deal expires in 2027, so could be available for a cut price deal. There’s no doubt of his quality, but his fitness record suggests he might be a gamble.

Perhaps one worth taking.
