The Blues are without silverware since 1995, a drought that now stretches over three decades. Indeed, a whole generation of Evertonians have grown up without seeing a trophy-winning side, myself included.
However, James Tarkowski insists that there is real ambition to finally put an end to this embarrassing chapter in the club’s history.
He said: “There’s definitely an emphasis on us doing well in the cups this year and after winning the previous round, we want to go again. We’re ready to go and looking forward to it.
“I think we’ve all seen Crystal Palace and Newcastle last year, teams outside the big six, have won a domestic trophy so there’s no reason why we can’t go and do it.
“As I said, there’s an emphasis on it as a club and as a team to go and win a trophy and go as far as we can in the competition so the group is definitely ready to go on Tuesday night and I’m looking forward to it.”
Football has become a closed shop in recent decades, with the same few clubs hoovering up the talent and trophies.
