‘We’re Ready’: James Tarkowski Says Toffees Eager for Cup Success Ahead of Wolves Game

Everton captain James Tarkowski has revealed the Toffees’ determination to win a trophy this season.

The Blues are without silverware since 1995, a drought that now stretches over three decades. Indeed, a whole generation of Evertonians have grown up without seeing a trophy-winning side, myself included.

However, James Tarkowski insists that there is real ambition to finally put an end to this embarrassing chapter in the club’s history.

He said: “There’s definitely an emphasis on us doing well in the cups this year and after winning the previous round, we want to go again. We’re ready to go and looking forward to it.

“I think we’ve all seen Crystal Palace and Newcastle last year, teams outside the big six, have won a domestic trophy so there’s no reason why we can’t go and do it.

“As I said, there’s an emphasis on it as a club and as a team to go and win a trophy and go as far as we can in the competition so the group is definitely ready to go on Tuesday night and I’m looking forward to it.”

EVERTON SHOULD TAKE INSPIRATION FROM NEWCASTLE & CRYSTAL PALACE

Football has become a closed shop in recent decades, with the same few clubs hoovering up the talent and trophies.

However, Newcastle, a club with a drought stretching back further than our own, lifted the League Cup last season. Crystal Palace then went on to win the FA Cup – the first time the club has tasted success.

Both sides are now in Europe and are seemingly headed in the right direction. Everton must take inspiration from this when we visit Molyneux tomorrow evening.

Progressing in the League Cup would be the ideal tonic after a frustrating and disappointing derby defeat.

Indeed, with Wolves without a Premier League win, tomorrow’s game is a real opportunity for David Moyes’ side.
