‘Very Important’: Idrissa Gueye Insists Everton Must Now Focus on Wolves Test

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has stated that the Blues must quickly recover from yesterday’s derby defeat.

Everton fell to a 2-1 loss at Anfield, with Idrissa Gueye’s strike offering hope of a second half comeback.

It was not to be, however, with Everton’s efforts hampered by questionable decision making on behalf of referee Darren England.

However, the Senegalese midfielder insists it is ‘very important’ for focus to shift to the League Cup.

The Toffees travel to Molyneux on Tuesday evening for the 3rd round tie against Vitor Pereira’s side.

Speaking with the Everton website, Gueye said: “We are disappointed because we didn’t start the game (against Liverpool) very well.”

“We played very well in the second half, especially. We improved a lot because we trust in our quality more.

“We try to play more and we go to press them higher, make it difficult for them and then we score the goal and win the second half.

“We will now have a recovery and think about the next game because it’s very important to qualify for the next round (of the League Cup).”

WOLVES GAME AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERTON

Tuesday evening provides Everton with an opportunity to quickly put the derby behind us and make progress in pursuit of silverware.

The Blues have already won at Molyneux this season, recording a 3-2 win last month.

Vitor Pereira’s side are yet to record a Premier League win this season, and could see the League Cup as little more than a distraction.

Indeed, this game presents Everton with a real opportunity to progress in the League Cup and get back to winning ways.

However, despite Wolves’ poor form, Moyes must not approach this fixture with complacency.

The Toffees have to put out our strongest XI and make sure our name is in the hat for the next round.
