Jordan Pickford Says He’s Still Improving and Yet to Reach His Peak

Everton keeper Jordan Pickford has stated that he has yet to reach his peak.

The 31-year-old has been one of Everton’s most consistent performers season in, season out. Indeed, there is little doubt that the Toffees are a Premier League side because of Pickford’s heroics.

Internationally, his performances are equally as impressive. He’s now England’s second most capped keeper (after Peter Shilton), and hasn’t conceded a competitive goal for almost a year.

With his current deal due to expire in 2027, negotiations are imminent for a renewed deal with Everton. Excitingly, the possibility of a career-long contract has been reported.

It’s no wonder the Blues are eager to make Pickford such a lucrative offer, with his consistency, leadership and experience all key for Moyes’ side.

PICKFORD CAN BE EVERTON HERO FOR YEARS TO COME

However, the 31-year-old insists he has yet to reach his peak as a keeper, revealing he is ‘still growing’.

Indeed, when asked if he was currently at the peak of his powers, he said: “I think I’m still growing.

“I’ll never say I’m at my peak, I’ll always be aiming to peak at the right levels and always wanting to improve. I don’t want to be at my peak and then all of a sudden do that (gestures downwards).

I want to keep improving and keep pushing myself, pushing the limits to get even better. By that, I mean training hard every day with Luc (David Lucas, Everton goalkeeper coach) and the lads, putting in performances week in, week out and being consistent.

“I think I’ve done that over the last few years and I keep striving to be even better. Being 31 or 24 it doesn’t matter about your age so long as I keep improving and feeling good, which I am and I’m still young as a keeper.”

Pickford’s words will be music to Evertonian ears. For such an accomplished player to have to drive to improve is a testament to his mentality.

Hopefully we will continue to see him between the sticks at BMD for many years to come.
