Liverpool Women 1-4 Everton Women

Everton women’s newest signing Ornella Vignola scored a hat-trick on her Women’s
Super League debut as Brian Sørensen’s women came from behind to ploy a 4-1
win over city rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool took the lead inside the 12th minute when Cornelia Kapocs broke free
down the left before cutting the ball back into the penalty area and drilling the ball in
off the underside off the crossbar.

Liverpool defender Gemma Bonner saw her effort at the back post from a free-kick
pushed onto the bar by a superb reaction save from Everton shot stopper Courtney
Brosnan.

In the 20th minute, both sets of fans applauded in memory of the late Diogo Jota,
who was killed in a car crash last month with his brother Andre Silva.

Everton pulled back an equaliser in the 24th minute following a quick counter attack
when Vignola who signed from Andalusian side, Granada – turned back into the right
side of the Liverpool box before curling her shot into the far corner.

“The Reds” scorned a massive opportunity to regain the lead before the half-time
whistle when Marie Hobinger rolled a loose ball wide of an empty net after Everton
defender Hayley Ladd made a blunder of her clearance when playing the ball out
from the back.

It proved a costly mistake as Everton got themselves in front in stoppage time at the
end of the first half when their captain Katja Snoeijs headed in a long cross from
Mayumi Pacheco.

Everton brought on record signing England midfielder Ruby Mace, who arrived on
Liverpool turf on deadline day from Leicester, for the second half.

Vignola headed in Everton’s third in the 54th minute from another excellent cross by
Pacheco and swiftly completed her treble with a low, left-footed shot which ended up
taking a deflection on it’s way past Reds keeper Faye Kirby.

Everton’s dutch midfielder Rosa van Gool, another debutant, saw her looping effort
drop onto the top of the crossbar late on in the second half.
