Everton could reignite interest in Champions League winning defender in January

Everton could reignite their interest in Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in January.

The Toffees were reportedly interested in the Dutch international during the summer, but no move materialised.

Everton made nine signings during the window, however there was only one arrival to strengthen the backline.

Indeed, left-back Adam Aznou joined the Blues from Bayern Munich, though injury has hampered his progress thus far.

Moyes made no secret of his desire to bring in some defenders during the summer, however he will have to make do with his current options for now.

January will be an opportunity to recruit once more, and Nathan Ake would be a terrific addition to the squad.

The Blues will face competition however, with a report stating that Forest, Newcastle, Spurs and West Ham are also interested.

Ake could be available for as little as £15m, which would be a good price for the experienced 30-year-old.

AKE WOULD BE QUALITY ADDITION TO EVERTON SQUAD

The Dutch international will potentially be available as Pep Guardiola continues to revamp his Manchester City squad.

Ake’s versatility would also be an asset to Moyes, with the former Bournemouth man capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back.

Everton’s limited defensive options have been highlighted by injury in the opening weeks of the season, especially down the left.

Vitalii Mykolenko and new signing Adam Aznou have been sidelined, forcing James Garner to fill in against Leeds.

Jarrad Branthwaite’s absence has been a big miss, while the club has still yet to sign the desperately-needed right-back.

Overall, Everton had a very successful summer window, with the midfield particularly better off after heavy investment.

Making the defense a priority in January would be wise, and Nathan Ake would be a superb signing.

If he is available for as little as £15m, the Dutchman could be a bargain of a signing.
