Everton Women have signed England international Ruby Mace from Leicester City for a club record fee.
The 21-year-old is Brian Sorensen’s ninth signing of the summer, matching the number of men’s new recruits.
The Friedkin Group have been keen to invest in Everton Women, making Goodison Park the permanent home ahead of the new season.
Indeed, Mace’s record breaking arrival is the latest sign of significant investment. The fee for the midfielder is believed to be in excess of £100,000, as per BBC Sport.
Speaking with the Everton website, the 21-year-old said: “It is a great feeling to join Everton. It is unreal that this is going to be the home of Everton Women. I am so excited to get started.”
She continued: “I said to my parents when I first heard about Everton, how the owners making Goodison the Women’s new home shows just how much they are backing the team. It means so much to everyone.”
NEW SIGNING EAGER TO IMPRESS AT GOODISON PARK
The versatile Mace can play as a holding midfielder and a centre-back, offering Sorensen’s side options across the pitch.
The Everton manager stated he was ‘delighted’ at the latest arrival. He told the Everton website: “I am delighted to have signed Ruby.
“She is a top talent and was rewarded for her brilliant form at Leicester with a call-up and debut for England.”
Sorensen’s side finalised their pre-season schedule with a 3-2 defeat at Goodison Park on Saturday. Indeed, after going two goals up against Juventus, the visitors responded with three second half strikes.
Everton face a trip across the park on Sunday September 7th to start the WSL campaign.
This is followed by a historic day at Goodison Park on Sunday September 14th, with Spurs welcomed to Everton Women’s new home.
