Everton are attempting to sign Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl as the transfer window edges towards tonight’s deadline, though completing a deal would be a race against time, according to reports.
The club have been actively seeking to bolster their midfield options before the window closes, having recently had a bid for West Ham’s Tomas Soucek turned down.
Interest has also been noted in Harrison Armstrong from the Championship, who could be sent out on loan if a Rohl deal goes through, while experienced midfielder Idrissa Gueye is set to be away with Senegal for the AFCON in December.
Rohl, 23, has been on Everton’s radar for around a year, with initial interest reported last January. He featured for Germany at this summer’s Under-21 European Championship and is regarded as a versatile, attack-minded midfielder capable of operating as a No. 8 or No. 10.
