‘It Was Great’: ‘Fantastic’ Everton Player Named in Troy Deeney’s PL Team of the Week

Everton midfielder Jack Grealish has been named in Troy Deeney Premier League Team of the Week.

The ‘fantastic’ Grealish put in a player of the match performance against Brighton on Sunday. Providing both assists in a 2-0 win, the 29-year-old showed his quality on a historic day for the club.

The loanee put in a tantalising cross for Ndiaye’s opener, before his second half lay-off was fired home by James Garner.

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Deeney said ‘it was great’ to see Grealish playing with freedom once more.

He stated, “Jack was fantastic. It was great to see him smiling and playing with freedom, with Everton looking to find him on all occasions – and he delivered with two assists. Jack playing well is not only good for him but also for England.”

EVERTON SHOW QUALITY AT BOTH ENDS OF THE PITCH

Also named in Deeney’s Team of the Week was Everton keeper Jordan Pickford. Not for the first time, Pickford’s heroics saved the day for the Blues – saving a Danny Welbeck penalty to avoid an anxiety-inducing finale.

Deeney said, “I thought he had a good game. It was a massive occasion for Everton at their new stadium. The penalty save was one everyone will say was easy, but at that point Brighton were on the up and if they scored I think they would have gone on and won.

It was one of those matches where you need a big-game player and he stepped up and it was a great save.”

Without doubt one of the best around, Pickford rarely gets the credit he deserves outside of our own fan base. We would likely be playing Championship football if not for him, and he once again showed his quality on Sunday.

Not only did his penalty save preserve his clean sheet, it continued a historic trend in all three of Everton’s stadiums. Indeed, the first penalty each Everton goalkeeper has faced at Anfield, Goodison Park and BMD has been saved.
