Everton have completed the signing of goalkeeper Mark Travers from Bournemouth, with the 26-year-old set to provide experienced backup to England No.1 Jordan Pickford.
Travers joins the Blues on a four-year contract following the departures of Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic, who both left the club earlier this summer upon the expiry of their contracts. His arrival gives manager David Moyes a reliable and proven alternative in goal, while also adding competition for the highly regarded Harry Tyrer.
Speaking to evertontv, Travers said: “I’m extremely proud and excited to be an Everton player. Coming in, you can feel how big this club is and the history that comes with it. You really feel that with the fanbase, the new stadium now as well and the direction the Club is going in.
“It’s a fresh start for me to come up here and try a new chapter in my career.
“It’s a really exciting time to be part of this massive football club and I just can’t wait to get going.”
A Republic of Ireland international with four senior caps, Travers arrives at Hill Dickinson Stadium having made 82 appearances for Bournemouth. He became the Cherries’ first-choice stopper during the 2021/22 campaign, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League, and also impressed during a loan spell at Stoke City last season.
Evertonians may best remember Travers as the Bournemouth ‘keeper who was beaten by Abdoulaye Doucouré’s thunderous volley on the final day of the 2022/23 season — a goal that sealed Everton’s Premier League survival in dramatic fashion at Goodison Park.
Originally signed by Bournemouth from Shamrock Rovers in 2017, Travers gained early experience during a brief loan at Weymouth — famously scoring on his debut from inside his own half. He has since developed into a composed and commanding presence between the sticks.
Travers becomes Everton’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of midfielder Carlos Alcaraz and forward Thierno Barry.
