Everton are closing in on the signing of Villarreal striker Thierno Barry, with the 22-year-old expected to fly into Merseyside shortly to undergo a medical ahead of a £27 million move, according to The Athletic.
While the deal is not yet finalised, the transfer is progressing well, with manager David Moyes poised to secure what would be the club’s most significant signing of the summer so far.
Barry had a £34.5 million release clause in his Villarreal contract, but Everton are set to pay a reduced fee, reportedly €32 million (£27.5m) plus potential bonuses. The French forward scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 38 appearances last season, helping Villarreal finish fifth in La Liga and secure Champions League qualification.
Born in Lyon, Barry began his career at Sochaux before moving to Belgian side Beveren at 19. He later joined Swiss outfit Basel and made the switch to Villarreal in August 2024 in a deal worth around £13 million.
Barry’s arrival will help bolster Everton’s forward line following the departures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left at the end of his contract, and Armando Broja, who returned to Chelsea after his loan spell ended.
If completed, the move would mark Everton’s second signing of the summer, following the permanent capture of Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo after a successful loan spell.
