James Tarkowski on David Moyes’ Everton Impact: Tactical Clarity and a Boost in Positivity

James Tarkowski has shared insights into the difference David Moyes has made since returning to Goodison Park. With two wins from three games under Moyes’ leadership, the centre-back has emphasised the impact of clear messaging, tactical reminders, and a renewed sense of positivity within the squad.

A Subtle but Significant Shift

When asked what has changed since Moyes’ arrival, Tarkowski acknowledged that while the transformation hasn’t been drastic, the small adjustments have made a crucial difference.

“It’s not been massive change. Honestly, whenever a new manager comes in, you get that little sort of boost, everyone does, but the manager gives us clear messages, simple messages, tactical reminders, and also, I think, just a little bit of positivity you need.”

After a difficult run of results, Everton needed to regain momentum, and according to Tarkowski, Moyes has provided exactly that. The focus on clarity and encouragement has allowed the team to rediscover their resilience and put points on the board.

A Natural Lift in Morale

The defender also addressed the shift in squad morale, acknowledging that a managerial change naturally brings a renewed energy to the team. However, he was careful to stress that this isn’t a slight against Sean Dyche, who departed after a difficult period.

“I think it’s natural. When you change manager, It’s nothing against the manager that left, and it’s happened at other clubs. I think you just get that little bit of a boost of the team. Everyone seems to get together a little bit more, a little bit more freedom. We’ve just really shown that a little bit of extra quality, I think, in games, that little bit of grit we’ve always had, and we’re managed to put wins on the board which is the most important thing”
