Report: £25m Jean-Philippe Gbamin could make last-minute move from Everton, he’s played just six games

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin could leave Goodison Park before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

The 27-year-old joined the Blues in a £25m deal from German side Mainz 05 back in 2019 but has made just six appearances for the club since then.

With persistent injuries, the Ivory Coast international has barely featured in his four years with the club and was eventually replaced by the player he was purchased to replace.

Brought in after PSG-bound Idrissa Gana Gueye moved to the French capital in a £30m deal, Gbamin was seen as an ideal alternative to the Senegalese midfielder.

However, it was not to be for Gbamin, and Gueye returned to Merseyside last summer in a deal worth £2m, picking up where he left off in the heart of Everton’s midfield.

Gbamin has spent periods out on loan from Goodison Park, with spells at CSKA Moscow and Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.

Everton risk losing £25m Jean-Philippe Gbamin on a free transfer if they don’t sell him now

Now, a permanent solution could be found before tomorrow’s deadline, with La Liga side Cadiz reportedly interested in the 27-year-old.

That is according to Spanish publication EIDesmarque, who suggest that a last-minute deal could be agreed between the two clubs.

You could be forgiven for forgetting that Gbamin is still on Everton’s books, so limited has his impact been since his 2019 move to Merseyside.

With one year remaining on his deal with the club, the Toffees may be able to recoup something for the midfielder who was seemingly a waste of £25m four years ago.

Everton meanwhile are linked with a loan move for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, who is also attracting the attention of La Liga side Sevilla.

However, Erik ten Hag may want to include the 20-year-old in his plans for this season, so any deal will likely depend on what business the Old Trafford club can conclude before the end of the window.
