‘He wants to’: Everton handed huge boost in pursuit of £18m teenager Willy Gnonto

Everton have been given a boost in their pursuit of Leeds United attacker Wilfred Gnonto as the player’s agent confirms he wants a move to the Premier League.

As per reports in Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the Toffees have made ‘concrete moves’ to secure Gnonto’s signature this summer.

Indeed, Everton are yet to sign a player this summer, but have been linked with a number of Leeds United players following the Yorkshire club’s relegation to the Championship.

Alongside Gnonto, Sean Dyche is reportedly interested in moves for attacker Crysencio Summerville and midfielder Tyler Adams as the Elland Road exodus gathers pace.

Whether Everton manage to land their transfer targets remains to be seen, but Wilfred Gnonto’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has confirmed that his player would favour a return to top-flight football this summer.

Speaking with Calciomercato ahead of Italy U-21’s game against Norway last night, Vigorelli said: “I say that we are concentrating on the national team and the European Championship.

“Then we have to talk to Leeds, and we’ll see, but I think there will be options. The Premier League experience has been fantastic for him, and I think he wants to continue in that direction.

Then, in football, everything can be, but right now the focus is on the national team.”

Gnonto would be an exciting player at Everton, if they can beat European prospects to his signature

Vigorelli’s comments bode well for Everton in their pursuit of the 19-year-old, who has also been linked with AC Milan and Fiorentina in his native Italy.

A raw and exciting prospect, Gnonto could be an interesting signing for Sean Dyche’s side, with a transfer fee reported at around £18m.

It has been a breakthrough year for the teenager, with regular first team football at Elland Road, and experience on the international stage.

Included in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the UEFA Nations League last year, Gnonto became the youngest goalscorer for his country, breaking a record stretching back to 1958.
