Farhad Moshiri On European Super League

Farhad Moshiri has condemned the European Super League as “not football anymore” and called on the Premier League to deduct points from the clubs involved.

Speaking with talkSPORT, Everton’s majority shareholder said: “Never, never [On whether Everton would join the European Super League if invited].

“Every facet of it is against the very idea of British football. Football clubs are community assets. They belong to fans and their communities.

“This just takes the romance of football away. You want to see Liverpool and Everton play. It’s something which makes the game just a money game. It’s not football anymore.

“I think the Premier League should deduct points from these clubs. This is six clubs attacking the very heart of the Premier League and I think they should be disciplined. That’s what I would do. They should have discussed it with the Premier League – they should have received a consensus. It’s a system that has worked for many years. The Champions League is the super league.

“The Premier League need to discipline clubs. The Premier League has a constitution. They need to treat powerful clubs as severely as poorer clubs

“I think football is about competition – when you watch West Brom beat Chelsea – this is football. Every club can outperform. On Saturday, 11 players against 11 players. A club like Leeds can go down and come back and draw with Liverpool, this is football. To deprive this competition, devalues the game.”
