Since the opening game of the Europa League campaign against Ruzomberok, GrandOldTeam.com have been collating all the Man of the Match poll results and we’re delighted to announce the inaugural GOT Player of the Month for July/August.
Before we get to the name, a little bit of transparency…
Only four players have featured in all seven games played – Leighton Baines, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – that saw a total of twenty players used by manager Ronald Koeman.
Two players, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, won two MotM polls with one game each for Wayne Rooney, Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The highest single game vote came following the 1-1 draw away at Manchester City… the lowest being after the only loss of the season so far, away to Chelsea last weekend.
Going forward, we intend to continue posting match reports with quotes from the manager and MotM polls as quickly as possible after each game, and we encourage all our members and readers to vote.
MotM poll voting will be open until the morning of the next game or for seven days, dependant upon international breaks and our progress in the domestic cup and Europa League competitions that inevitably will condense the game day diary somewhat.
So now we’re in September, it gives us great pleasure to announce that for July/August… cue drumroll…
