Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Everton earn a point in a 0-0 stalemate at White Hart Lane.

In a disjointed first half, Nabil Bentaleb was the first to go close for Tottenham before Tom Cleverley forced Hugo Lloris into a smart save after capitalising on a loitering Kyle Walker.

The game’s golden chance came to Harry Kane. Oviedo lost possession in the Spurs final third, Mason found Kane who raced towards Howard’s goal but the American goalkeeper stood firm as the England striker could only muster a tame effort.

Spurs were knocking on the door, but Howard was equal to efforts from Toby Alderweireld and Bentaleb again towards the end of the half.

After the break, the hosts continued to prompt and probe without showing a real cutting edge, epitomised when Mason picked Gareth Barry’s pocket but could again only find Howard’s gleeful hands.

Chadli then spurned a gilt-edged opportunity halfway through the second half, lashing over when well placed after some pinball in the Toffees’ penalty area.

Jan Vertonghen then cantered forward but fired over, before the Belgian defender was then beaten to the ball by Kone but the Everton striker could only glance his header just wide.

Steven Naismith had a faint penalty shout turned down after being bundled over by Danny Rose in the dying moments, but the game ultimately petered out.

FT: Tottenham 0-0 Everton.
